IF the OP is coming from a 930 turbo, then my advice to him would to get either a Euro-S car or a 85-up 32V.
I would bet that any US car below 1985 would feel like a dog to him.
I haven't been in many S4's, but the ones I have been in make me appreciate the lower gearing of my OB. I mean, it's not like we live on the Autobahn (unfortunately).

Regarding gearing, I'm quite used to long, tall cogs. The 930 has a 4 speed box with notoriously tall gears. Both 3rd and 4th are overdrives, in fact. Redline in 3rd is 135-140mph.
