What's with this overwhelming need with some of you constant car-searchers to have the 928 experience defined by the magnitude of the "deal" gotten on the entry price?

Is it still about the future "flip" of the car?

^+1! I paid "too much" for mine and I could give a s**t less. It has been my daily driver for almost 30K miles now. I love/hate the problems (I do all my own wrenching, of course), but I simply love the car. But, as the Russians say, afraid of wolves?, stay out of the forest!

OK "It probably comes down to how much prep one does themselves and how picky they are with the end product." I visited a Pantera shop Yesterday saw 15 or so My Daughter afterward commented on how bad the paint was on many of them even the one with the $42,000 PRICE TAG ! Was at the Pomona swap meet Sat-Sunday slept in the truck looked at tons of cars and very few had really nice paint. One issue now in California Metro areas is they MUST use water base paint and from what I have seen it is real hard for most to get it right. Paint looks cloudy hazy orange peel under the clear coat.

There are exceptions. Two cars sold locally that were remarkably good deals.

Mike Monson's heavily upgraded and well-cared for 88 for a ridiculously low price.

Some people find it impossible to "win" unless the other guy "loses."

Yes there are, but I've never seen a car in need of restoration that was "cheap.' Thay all tend to be $10k away from being a $5k car.

The good scores are on the very well sorted out cars. Their prices tend to be depressed by the loads of marginal to crap cars you see on CL and eBay every day.

I tried to buy Mike's after he had an offer; offered him $1000 above if it fell through--but it didn't :-(

I think its their long-heralded reputation with the rest of the world that depressess the value of the pretty cars. That marginal crap comment is crap.
