Hi Sean

No taping or anything else as I decided to do it , sort of on the spur of the moment, otherwise I would have removed both wipers instead of them blowing off behind me lol.

All the best Brett

[QUOTE=Hacker-Pschorr;7816881]208.1 - now we're talking, that's hauling some a**

Not to sound like a broken record here, how about a re-cap of your safety system? IIRC it wasn't much more than stock which scares the bajesus out of me at these speeds. I would go for a full cage for this kind of speed attempt. All the time / money already sunk into this project, a cage is hardly a budget or time breaker.

+1 on aero mods. Just starting with an S4 tail, taped up seams, nose, chin splitter etc... would make a world of difference.

Here is a Factory Five Daytona Coupe at Bonneville where it reached 216.9mph. It's aero mods are quite obvious, the side skirts would be a somewhat simple addition to a 928. I also like the idea of a parachute. If **** hits the fan, it can be the difference between walking away and being carried.

Hi

My safety stuff is as follows...no cage as its my daily driver.... Momo race seat, full 6 point harnesses, Nomex Race suit and Helmet.
Thats the lot...

I definitely need to sort out the rear aerodynamics though as the nearest way to describe what it felt like when I lifted off was a sort of "powered hovercraft" feel...I had almost no feel through the car and was EXTREMELY careful with the steering wheel (tiny movements) as it felt like any sudden movements on the wheel the car would swap ends

It was an extremely unpleasant feeling as I basically had no control until the speed dropped to around 180 when I sort of "landed" back on the road....

One thing though, at least I know the speed that will show if any aero improvements are improving things...between 180 and 190....

All the best Brett

Congratulations on a really great run!

Not to take anything away from your outstanding effort, just for discussion, this guy hit 228mph in 1 mile in a 4 cyl and crossed the one mile marker driving with one hand and a blown engine, and on fire.... really hard to believe the aerodynamics are better on an Evo Mitsushi than on a 928.....he is one very lucky fellow....looks like his fire system may have saved him....

Did you change the gearing? I also wonder this about the ORR cars here in the states. If you are going to go beyond 180 or so you will be above redline...if you are above 200 then you are going to have to be turning like 8000 rpm with the stock transmission aren't you???

Hi

My rev limiter was removed by the famous John Speake expressly for this sort of record run... he blew me a chip with the limit raised to 9710 lol...

The normal limiter on my S2 is factory set at 6375 and I knew that would not be enough, hence Johns chip...

I was a little surprised that on the run my max revs were only 6865 as on some previous 1/4 mile runs I once saw just over 8000 lol ..missed a change....(and the engine survived)

My diff is a 2.35 with 275/40/18 rears and 225/40/18 fronts with increased pressures to 40/46 to further increase the rolling radius, it was obviously enough although it may have added to the "hovercraft" effect

All the best Brett

Congrats.

I wonder if there is any way to lock your shocks so that they resist upward travel? I bet you could install some sort of locking bar on the springs top and bottom that would prevent expansion, this may help stabilize the car some as it tries to fly away. Then again, this may do the opposite and you actually do fly up into the air and then die.

How much would the fine be in England? Probably
way cheaper than what this guy will be paying:

http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?...928&fSetId=381

Take some time to put a cage in it- be safe!
Check with some of the open road racers here that run the unlimited class & compare notes
on the aero tricks.
Might be worth contacting some of these people to see what works at Bonneville. They have years
of experiance at extreme speeds keeping them on the ground.

Good luck & be safe!

Hi

In England if I had got caught doing that speed, it would have been a MINIMUM of a year in jail, probably 18 months to 2 years

On your second point, I realise that several 928 racers in the US have easily exceeded my speed (220 plus I seem to remember) and am hoping they will chip in with some aero help....

All the best Brett

Congrats!

You may want to cover and tape over your headlights to help with downforce on the front. Definitely want the rear S4 wing and also you want to ensure that lift is minimized from the front to rear. As some other said, if you can lower the car, the better the downforce, lower risk of lift.

The DEVEK white car...

No wipers
No Mirrors
Front Air Dam
Side Skirts
Pic from 1998 he made 209.

Think later he raised the back of the hood for air intake and made 212.
I remember him saying to go above 212 he needed narrower tires.

RUF says sunroof gets sucked out of 911 in the 220 range.

Hi Michael

I am unsure whether the S4 wing will help enough as the S4 top speed (officially) is only around 10 mph higher than an S2....

Even the latest GTS was only 178 mph...is the GTS the same wing as an S4 do you know ?

All the best Brett
