Cheap replacment door speaker
If anyone is looking to replace worn out stock door speakers just installed these, fit with very little trouble and sound better than stock. I am not saying these are the best you can do but as a stock replacement and upgrade sound great, and great price. The original grills will fit over them as well.

Too thick for early cars with a flush grill where the speakers mount on the rear face of the door panel.
I tend to agree even cheap speakers can sound ok, and with a loud exhaust its kinda moot anyway.
Lanzar and Pyle make a speaker I think for the old Chevy S10 that is both very shallow and about the right size for an early car door.

Hi,
I am running a Nakamichi MB-VI, DIN 1 CD changer/reciever. The stock sterio was removed by the previous owner and replaced with a single disc Pioneer sterio.
I have an '88 S4 and I have installed the 4" Kenwood 3-way speakers ($50 at Best Buy) in my front doors, the fit is great. I did a lot of searching and this was the least expensive and these were best fit I could find on an "off the shelf" speaker.
I just disconnected the separate tweeter in the door and left it in place when I installed the Kenwood speakers.

I saved the OEM speakers and grills. Maybe one day I will figure out how to reuse the OEM grills.
I hope this helps,
Joe

I installed Memphis speakers in my 82. Bolted right up perfectly, however they're a tad bit thicker than stock, so it took a little extra force to reinstall the door panel. They sound SUPERB!!
They only sell through dealers, like car audio shops.

Same speaker the original poster linked to, and now they are going for $15. Great deal. Think I'll get some.

Bump... I bought the Kenwoods from SOnicElectronix for $15 with free shipping. These are "good" drop in replacements for the 4"s in the doors. My originals had deteriorated (i.e. Foam disintegrated) so I cut the ring off the frame with a dremel and was able to use the stock grills. Looks nearly stock except for the silver driver behind the grill.
