928sRus and 928OC 'Sharks at the Beach III': 10/9/2010@ The Jersey Shore
Hey everyone,
Well it's that time again and once again (against my advice) Adam has volunteered up his home to host the third (almost) annual Sharks at the Beach cruise/GTG/Tech session (we skipped '08).
The date is set for Saturday 10/9/2010: one week after Frenzy. The plan is again going to be to meet at the Shark River (really!) and do a little parade lap along the beach in Belmar, then head up Route 18 to Adam's place in Freehold for a GTG and tech session with lunch. Having it in October should ensure that driving along the beach in Belmar won't be too crazy. Last year we lost a few people in the traffic. Somehow Ernest managed to keep finding us though!
EDIT: We've secured co-sponsorship from 928sRus (2nd year in a row, thanks Roger!) and also from the 928OC (thanks for volunteering this Stan Shaw).
Last year's SATB was a great time with 8 or 10 928s, about a dozen people and somebody drove away with about 50 hp more than he came in with (Hey Steve, how's it going?).
Adam and I are kicking around ideas for a tech session, leaning toward a wheel bearing replacement that he wants to do on his car. But if anyone wants to do some wrenching on the side I'm sure we could work it out.
Adam's got a lift in his huge garage, and we've got a set of liftbars for each type (OB and 86.5+) as well as service covers and a few other goodies for checking or working on stuff. Adam's a really good mechanic and I'm, well, I'm willing and I take direction well.
Kieren, if you can make it, it would be great if you could come back and burn... I mean cook up the burgers for us again.
I can't wait! It's gonna be a great time and the weather should be cool enough so I'm not sweating on someone's chips (there's a joke in there somewhere).
So what do you say, who's in? Sign up here and let us know.

Update: We just secured sponsorship from Roger at 928sRus for the event again this year.
Last year he provided some door prizes and gift certificates that really were great.
Thanks Roger!!!

Hi Mike.
Wish I could make it, but I'm going to be on vacation in Maine on that date.
At least I'll be going to the Frenzy the week before.
The Shark parade should be easier this year without the crazy Labor Day weekend shore traffic.

Sounds great, I'll put it on my calendar - will definitely show up.
I've been thinking of buying OBehave's "safe water pump" - if there is an interest in helping me out installing it (never did wp/tm before myself), let me know and I will make sure I have it by the event. Wanted to check the torque tube as well since there is an access to the lift...
P.S. If you guys need help with food/water/beer - let me know what is needed.
Cheers!

Wow, nice initial turnout.
Details will follow in this thread as they become available. The park where we met last year is called Maclearie Park and it's right on the Shark River. It' s on Route 35 just North of where Route 138 (195) ends in Belmar.

I'm in
Hey Mike,
Please count me in - I will be there!
Maybe we can fix my demonic cruise control that was a side effect from the last time I was down on the Jersey Shore?
Let me know what I can bring.
Regards,

I spoke to Adam this weekend and we're a little hesitant to do a complete TB/WP job at this event only because sometimes you end up needing parts you hadn't anticipated and I don't want to take a chance of getting stuck in the middle and having to close it up because of time (worn gears, broken wp bolts, whatever). Maybe at a future GTG though. The lift will be available for checking things and minor work.
I think the plan will be to kind of have a few stations this time instead of one big project. We can put cars up on the lift for checking things or doing minor stuff (check/release flex plate tension as long as we don't have to pull the exhaust, listen for rattles, check condition of things you don't normally get to see, that type of thing).
In the driveway we'll have two sets of liftbars (one for OB and one for 86.5+) as well as service covers for doing other stuff. I've got to pull my pod out again so if anyone wants to see how that's done or work on theirs at the same time we could do that.
Everyone please let us know what kinds of things anyone would like to do/check out and we'll try to come up with a plan so we're not all parked and then trying to figure out how to get the last car on the lift.
Looking forward to seeing you again. I don't mind taking a look at the cruise control again, since then I've done a little reading on it and we may have to take it out and resolder the connections. I'll put it on the list.
Have you switched chips since then? I think there was something with the idle in that version that has since been ironed out. If you haven't but you have the chips we can swap those out if you like.
Tony (Toofast928) where are you? Will you be there?

No worries and I understand the timing thing. Other then waterpump, will it be possible to recheck tention of the timing belt belt? I had it replaced back when I bought the car back in May and it is around the time to re-check it now. I assume this is a more or less straight forward and should not take much time. Other then that, I need to replace the the rubber edging on the sunroof - the one on car has dried up. Also, PO never told me when was the last time he flashed fluids - would it be possible to replace engine oil and possibly transmission and read axle differential fluids?
Drop me a line here or through PM if anything of the above can be handled and also with a list of tools needed for the work (even if you guys already have them, I'll make sure to I have them on hand as well).
Thank You!
