"odds are", "probably" "got screwed"... what the hell kind of "arguments" are those supposed to be? if you have something to share, share it! All you're doing right now is throwing feces around the cage.

Argument???? He said he got a good deal and my guess is he got screwed. Until there are details to argue about, if there is any interest in agruing at that time, that is kind of the end of it. What the hell else do you think can be said at this point?

My impression is that this is a forum, a place for posting of ideas, thoughts and positions about things. I don't see it as a place to simply post notices. Therefore when something is posted it seems to be intended to call for some reciprocal thought and expression of interest or concern or whatever. When this stuff is posted it tends to open one up for whatever might come in response, even if it tends to stink.
My language was not offensive, as I can tell, nor did I ridicule anyone in any way. I simply stated my thought that I think is responsive and possibly very valid.
When members post about getting a new 928 for themselves there always seems to be plenty of advise about the things that might be wrong with it. Maybe that is more constructive than what I have to offer Larry, since he cannot act now on what I might have to say, but at least it might be of some value to the rest of the community in the future to need to learn more about what is involved in making a damage settlement relating to their 928.
Sorry Larry, if you are offended by my expectations. Actually I'm glad you really are happy with your settlement, and I hope my guesses are wrong about it.

No basis to say it is not valid, either. And, I don't care if it was damage to his boat, he is posting on the 928 forum so my responses are intended for the consumption of the 928 community, as stated.

OK, more info and I guess I need to explain why this info might be relevant to a 928 forum ....
The car was a total. I requested that the car be totaled in an indirect manner - I said it couldn't be repaired so an expert couldn't detect it. Like many 928 owners I have other cars, they are specialty cars and they have insurance. I thought info on a polite and reasonable settlement would be of interest to other 928 owners as 951's are somewhat similar in that they aren't "first tier" collectibles. If a 928 is damaged we don't want an insurance company to say "what a crappy car, here's $3 k, get lost". We want to be "restored to the previous condition". In my case they gave me a fair price and included sales tax and title transfer fees with the assumption that we would replace the car. At 60 years old with time in the auto service business I haven't just fallen out of an Easter basket and I can assure you I got a fair price.
While this isn't the most on topic 928 post I thought it might have some value as my experience is backed by some knowledge of the car hobby - they could have tried giving me less and they didn't.
BTW, I was only driving the 4 banger because the glass is out of our 928 for rust repair and I was getting various PPG stuff for my repair work.

You can be sure if the insurance company didn't think they were getting a good deal you'd have known about it. Adjusters are paid to control claim costs, not be nice people. Ask any current or former claims adjuster.
I'm glad that you were happy with the outcome and didn't experience the typical hassles many folks do.

Havent (yet) had a car totalled, but one major accident that was repaired (not 928) came back better than before - paint just as good, and whole front end was tighter and quieter, so there are occasionally winners in these areas. Not banking on it though.

I find that when single-party fault is involved the payouts seem fair. It's when things like comprehensive are involved or no-fault that things get squirrely. My folk's 2000 Toyota Camry (their backup car) was hit in the rear quarter by a woman who ran a stop sign. It was already scratched, dented and rusting back in late 2007 when the accident happened. The other woman's company paid my folks $11,000. The car, at best was worth, $6000 wholesale, $8000 retail, in its condition and mileage at that point. Ditto other friends who's cars were totalled by another driver.
Thanks again,
Michael
