Default engine cleaning

I've used Gunk on my Harleys, and other cars for years. Would there be a problem with using it on the 928?

Engine in the car or out? Lots of guys use brake cleaner so Gunk shouldn't be any worse. I just finished power washing the underside of my car with plain water, in preperation for motor mount change on Saturday. The power washer got everything spotless. Lots of back splash and water everywhere, but no nasty chemicals to sit and eat away at gaskets, seals etc.

The power washer is a wondrous tool! Nothing else does the kinds of jobs it can do so efficiently.

Don't use one on the top of the engine, though!! Ask me how I know...

No water inside the engine compartment unless it is on fire and you have no other way to put it out.

Wurht brake clean and rags is all I use.
Lots of things and places you do not want water of gunk on there.

There is no reason to use a power washer on the motor. Unless your intake and cam covers are already a peachy color, if you spray anything on them they will be immediately. I have cleaned several motors in several 928s and the only time I ever had a problem was when I used a pressure washer. I have found the best way is to use Castrol Super Clean (watch out for the finish on the intake and cam covers....) and use plenty of water. Spray with water, spray on super clean and scrub with a soft brush and sponge depending on what you're trying to clean and rinse throuoghly. Rinse liberally and once all the cleaner is off start the engine and let it warm up. This will dry out the electrical connection or prevent water from getting to them. IMHO, a pressure washer is asking for electrical issues in the engine compartment....

Gunk is not brake clean.

Whatever you use, if the engine's in the car, you better run it, and even take it for a drive until it's good and hot to dry any water.

I like brake cleaner but it doesn't go very far which makes it an expensive solvent. I've got a 32-valve engine on a stand, a 5 gallon can of kerosene, plus an assortment of brushes. I'll use the brake cleaner after I get rid of the caked on grease, sand, etc.

Do not use Carb cleaner.

I'm with the quality Brake Clean crowd.

Simple Green seems to do a nice job unless you have some serious buildup.

Simple Green sucks...... I've NEVER found this product to be worth a damn! Spray it on, scrub, rinse and it did absolutely nothing.....

I love Gunk Foamy engine cleaner. I've sprayed down my engine several times with zero problems. I love being able to see everything under the hood.

Wd40 has worked wonders on disolving corrosion, too.
