Default Connecting Rods...

Hey, does the 928 use the same (dimensionally) rods as the 944/951?

Thanks

interesting headlamps

It makes a 944 look like a 300ZX

Thanks - I like them, though definitely less light at night (not really a problem for me though).

Anyone know about the rods?

Do not take this as the final word, but I think the width of the big end is different, even though the casting numbers can me the same?

Are you looking for rods? and if so what rods are you looking for?

Yeah.

Mostly yes. Same bearings. Same length. But the big ends are wider to work on single-rod journals instead of double-rod journals.

You could machine a 944 rod to fit into a 928, but not the other way around.

I'm looking to possibly try setting up a group-buy of a set of aftermarket rods...
Minimum is 40 rods, at 195.50 each, which works out to better than every option I've seen thus far.
I figured with a couple of 928s in the mix, 40 rods might be doable...

Not many 928 owners looking for a rod stronger than stock, unless they are building a stroker engine. The stock rods, although heavy, are plenty adequate all the way until the GTS engines.

Just like on the 944 engines, it is very, very rare to see a rod that fails...unless it sticks on the crank, from the rod bearing failing. If that happens, the rod will break regardless of who makes it.

Fair enough - though breaking a rod isn't quite as rare as you may think.
I broke one (didn't spin bearing) and it absolutely destroyed the engine - nice big hole out the side of the block...
