Default picked up nail in pass side rear tire

I'm looking for some sage advice on tire repair.

I picked up a small nail in one of the two center grooves of the passenger side rear tire. the tire is a Yokohama ES100 255/40 ZR17 94W. these were the tires that came with the car when i purchased it almost three years ago. the tires have quite a bit of life left in them, and i was planning to use them in DE events next year.

what would you suggest, plug, patch, or pitch? given that i'm planning to do DE's i'm leaning towards patching, but i'm not sure if even patching is good if planning track events.

i welcome your comments and thanks.

Plug, then patch, then re balance.

That is the only way a quality tire shop will do them.

a good quality plug is fine, installed correctly. Ive done it only a few times, but they worked well for racing and DEing.

if you take it to a tire store they may put in a patch plug for your tire, this is basically 2 repairs in one.
a patch for the inside of the tire carcass and a plug for the hole.
Since its in the tread area they should be able to repair the tire

Not exactly a nail, but this pretty much ruined my day....

2.5" gash straight through the cords on one of my new RE-11s.

Must have run over a hatchet. Whata ya think, plug & patch?

If I had known that when I was a kid, it would have saved me a trip to the clinic!

Word up, James!

The Tire shop will dismount it check for heat damage. My 911 wheel had a crack valve stem and I drove too long before noticing getting a flat. Once the shop open it up and saw bunch tire powder the tire is gone. It didn't look too bad on the outside.

Greg:

I may be out, but not because of the trashed tire. I switched to my backup set of Potenza 050's & my road hazard warranty will cover replacement (less whatever they charge me - mounting, balancing, wear - don't know - tire only had 2,864 miles on it) but it's a special order - replacement should be in within a couple of days.
