Default Second worst 928 project today ugh

Other than doing the headgaskets with the motor in the car installing the 85-86 exhaust manifolds and Y pipe today was by far one of the worst projects. I did have it on a lift but it was tight and had to remove a bunch of stuff. If anyone is planning on doing this mod it's a knuckle buster.

Some advice from my experience:
I had stainless studs in so that made it a real PITA. The manifolds wouldn't line up so I had to drill the smaller holes to match the larger ones. Once this was done they fit much better. I also removed the subframe support braces that attach to the A- arm bolts. As much as they suck to reinstall I removed both motor mount heat shields this made it much easier. I think I could write a book on how to work on 928's the hard way.

I'm looking to do this also. What Y-pipe did you go with? I hear you have to add a piece to most of the Y-pipes to make them work with the 85-86 manifolds.
Any Pics?

I purchased the Y pipe and adapter to make it work with the 85-86 manifolds from Roger. It was going to be about the same in labor to have a shop cut and extend the Y pipe to work so I chose the adapter. Plus I didn't have to drive down to the muffler shop at 130 DB's and blowing flames out the manifold on the fuel lines... I'll post some pics here in a few days.

I gave up on installing those with the engine on a stand!!!

I know that's a bit embarrasing, but sometimes you just say "#### it, I want it running now"

On my old '80, I removed the studs and used bolts.
Those 85-86 tubulars are sweet!

I agree, Stainless studs are a problem in the future, carbon steel hold up best.
