I'm not crazy about the "factory" Gemballa kit (from the Gemballa factory?), but it has a rootwood kit frorm the Porsche Sonderwunschprogramm... that's pretty cool!

I like it! I think it is the best kit upgrade to the earlier cars. Well integrated and I like the bright silver with burgundy color combination. Unique and nice looking. Thanks for the post.

And, I agree with Raven928... it's a Koenig kit, not Gemballa.
I contacted Gemballa (& the other tuner companies of that era) to get pics of the 928 kits they made & they stated they never made one... but who knows?
Rinnspeed even got in on the act (the only photo in their archives):

This is clearly a Gemballa kit. Gemballa made quite a few 928 conversions; some of their interior stuff was really nice. But the Gemballa exterior kit as shown here turns the 928 into everything it is not: A busy looking car with bumpers that lose their integrated look.
I consider it pretty bad...
Koenig is very different - bold look, but everything nicely integrated, and pretty smooth lines. Strosek - who worked for Koenig before starting his own company - took it one step further and made things even smoother and more elegant.
Attached pictures: Gemballa company, the Gemballa from NZ, a silver Koenig, black SGS Gullwing with Strosek body kit.

I stand corrected... clearly the Gemballa employee that responded to my inquiry was not well versed with their history! Thanks Nicole!
The pic of their factory with the 928 in the foreground getting the "treatment" is fabulous! Interesting to note that they are applying 944-like headlights... I wonder if that feature is part of the inspiration for the A.I.R. '928 Testarossa' kit?
Very cool...!

It's hard to improve on perfection, isn't it?
I think Koenig and Strosek did a pretty good job in enhancing without offending.
Note that Strosek made his changes look more subtle - he even kept the wheel arches in its original style.
Koenig, on the other hand, made the wheel arches round, and offset it with bold shapes from a humongous mock air intake right behind the front wheel and right before the rear wheel, as well as lines above each wheel arch. Without that, the Koenig would look very heavy, as if it had melted over the wheels...

Just a small clarification my *coff* was alluding to my belief that the Koenig 928 is better looking than the Gemballa 928 .

I like it..not too "over the top" and with different wheels and a bit lower would look superb.
