Default Does Boxster 3 spoke steering wheel fit?

Does a Boxster three spoke or 911 RS steering wheel fit a 928 S4?

No. I have the 928 GTS airbag steering wheel in black leather that should fit your S4 available if you would like it.

I am not sure how it would work on a 928, but here is a RL944 member's DIY (Gregeast), who did it on his 951. His interior is first class btw: https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-on-951-a.html

Looks like it'll work on a 928 as well:

I tried to do it on a 78 928 and the splines and shaft sizes are different. I tried a 968 wheel and a GTS wheel. Neither fit. They should fit an S4 however. Thats why I'm offering mine for sale.

My S4 is an 89', so the spline may be different. No airbag needed for this year. Anyone think the 89' model has the same spline?

Default RS

Maybe something like these would work better for my year. What do you think?

89 is the old size shaft.....the airbag wheels use the 944 size shaft

When Porsche went to airbags on all models they changed the spline size to a smaller diameter. Therefore NO airbag wheel will fit on a origionally equipped NON-airbag steering spline without modifications. Several on this list have done it, but it's a lot of work.

Modifications to airbag wheels may be an option, but I think I can find a nice aftermarket wheel that does not detract from the original styling cues. The hunt goes on!

Confirming that the 996/Boxster wheel will fit the 928 which came equipped with airbags. I have one on my car. There is a slight modification needed to increase the depth of the hole where the steering shaft nut fits, and a 993/996/Boxster "clock spring" is needed, as well as removing a small amount of the plastic covering that is on the top of the steering shaft on the 928. With those slight modifications, it fits perfectly, looks great, and is a great wheel. I particularly like the "safety" to me of having the horn be actuated by pressing on the center of the wheel.
