Need Help - Passenger side mirror
MY85 with stock side mirrors.
I found my car with the reflective mirror laying on the ground beside the car. It is not broken, chipped nor scratched as it landed in the grass next to my driveway. The mirror assembly is intact and on the car. The back face plate of the mirror and the face of the mounting surface look exceptionally clean with no sign of glue residue.
Can someone help me by telling me how these are mounted along with what product to use? I'm assuming it's some type of adhesive.

I would suggest to use some RTV sealant on the back of the mirror you dont need much but its better to spread it around to increase the grip strength, then tape the mirror to the housing and let it cure for 24 hours a piece of foam will add some pressure to the mirror try to keep the tape off the painted portion of the housing

Look inside the mirror body and you should see a round, black locking ring assembly. You can unlock and remove the outer ring and glue that back on the mirror with some epoxy. Then use the mirror adjustment switch to orient things so the mirror mechanism faces most inward, and position the new glued glass assembly onto the mirror body and use a screwdriver to move the lock ring.
Actually, you could probably just as well do it without removing the lock ring and gluing it separately to the mirror back, more like what Stan suggests.

I had the same problem, but caught it before the mirror fell off. I little Gorilla Glue around the edge, tape in place for an evening, and the next day, better than new and never falling off again. No bleed thru under the mirror glass either from the glue. This is a common problem.

Thanks guys - two appraoches. A couple of questions prior to my addressing this later this weekend: 1. If I glue the glass back on, will I have issues later on if I should need to change the reflective surface? 2) If I go with the lock band approach, Bill, does it just align around the perimeter of the back of the mirror? Any trick/difficulty with gluing it?

Frank - i think you'd be okay with the glue, and if for some reason you ever needed to pull it off, then it may be a bit of a pita, but doable. The black plastic backing could be replaced if you needed to. I've never had to pull one off once reglued.
