Seeing this on the window reflector thread,
"928. There is no substitute"
, and kind of felt, yeah, there really isn't a substitute without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. I was wondering what other cars are in our class? Aston? Ferrari? Maserati? I'm not sure a fiberglass bodied corvette could possibly feel quite the same. Even my 25 y/o car feels 'tight'. No rattles, everything snug.

Not enough room in back to put the V8 Vantage in w/ the 928...I think the DB9 is more like it.

On the F-car front I would say the closest analog would be the 456 and in the current line up it would be the 612.

I would say the SC400 was a good try by Toyota (nee. Lexus...they used the 928 as their base for comparison).

Masterati GranTurismo is an AWESOME car and a would be my choice of today's cars!

Depends on what about the 928 floats your boat.

Classic at least semi exotic design.
German engineering
300 rwhp and crazy top end speeds possible.
Easy to drive at speed.
Extreme cornering and braking ability.
Sounds great.
Fits big and tall drivers and passengers.
Affordable in its old age.
Leather and luxury.
Long distance seating and driving comfort.
Porsche leather smell.

And how many qualities you can do without.

To me, it would be the Aston Martin Vantage, despite the smaller interior without rear seats.

BUT: The Aston's design is not nearly as unique as that of the 928.

I pulled up next to a new black Jag XK coupe this morning and received an admiring nod (which I promptly returned) from the well healed looking driver. The Jag seemed quite comparable to my '91 S4.

BMW 8-series

A heavy, high-powered luxury coupe that was a market flop.

I want one!

BMW "6" series coupe. Although its a little heavier, slower and has a big old "Bangle" butt..........It's a nice cruiser and getting fairly cheap. Nothing wrong with a Jag XK8 coupe either, and they are REALLY cheap! But when the day is done, they're STILL not a Porsche.

Chevrolet Corvette
BMW 635CSI
Nissan300ZX
Lexus SC400
Toyota Supra
Mercedes 500SL

All GT cars like the 928. None are as cool but are all similar in scope.

I'm flagging your post as obscenity.

Hey!!!

I bought an 86.5 Supra new in 86 and still have it! It is an awsome car! In many respects, it is far above the 928.

But, a 928, IS a 928!!!
