Just shut her down and waiting for my buddy to arrive. 10min ago the T-belt light came on and my heart almost stopped. Since it is still heavily raining I thought maybe the water caused the warning sytem to short. I turned the ignition on and off a re set the 5min waiting period. 2 min later my temp gauge went to red and threw a warning, at that moment I shut it down and I knew the pump must have siezed and the belt is quickly streaching. This is why the belt ten light came on before the engine started to get hot. I was right at an off ramp and pulled over at a safe spot. Popped the hood and pulled the rubber cap of the passanger side timing cover vent hole. Since my intake is not original I put rubber caps on the vents to keep thing out. As soon I the cap came off I could see faint smoke coming out of it and it smelt like burnt rubber. The electric fan was on and both sides of the radiator were hot. I have no dout the water pump is siezed but happier than pig in $hit that shut her down before the belt jumped or broke. I'll post pics when I tear it down this weekend.

Phew, close call! Excellent save! I imagine you must be very relieved. Maybe an excellent opportunity to try the new-and-improved water pump.

So is the impeller the rotor and the volute shaped part of the block where the impeller resides the stator?

Rotor / stator is usually the terminology used with positive displacement rotational pumps like the Moyno that I've used in food flavoring processes.

Impeller within volute seems to be the terminology for the centrifugals, so the block as I'm seeing it might be called part of the volute.
