+1 on Demoise. I used them to ship my 928 from CA to GA, which was just a little too far to drive in a weekend. Fully enclosed and they did a great job, comminucated every step of the way and delivered exactly when they said they would. That was $1200 about 3 years ago. However I also just drove my latest purchase from Dallas to Atlanta and had a wonderful trip, not to mention a little cheaper than shipping. Airfare + hotel + gas + food for my son and I over two days was about $500 all in. Not to mention we have a great memory now. I definitely recommend driving if you can spare a couple days.

So do you still need help on transporting for your car? A few months ago i shipped my car from OK city to INDY for $540. It was supposed to be an open trailer but turned out to be in a closed trailer. I can provide details on the middle man or the direct driver. Calling him direct would save you about 200 bucks.

PM and i'll give you some help.

They brought EURO85 from SoCal to ATX for $1100. I was happy w/ the cost and the transport. I have also used FedEx Passport before (BLUE82).

Did one of you guys on the east coast put eyes-on or was there a PPI? Think it'd be a good idea before it's loaded on the hauler. Hate to be a buzz kill...

I thought the person who brought it up had actually looked at that car or there were at least a couple of people here familiar with it... That was my assumption anyway and I agree, if no one looked at this car RECENTLY then Brian, DON'T SEND A CHECK!

Looked back at post 76...does not look like anyone has ACTUALLY LOOKED at the car, but Michael offered to check it out... I HOPE that has happened! OMG, I can't imagine buying one of these cars w/o someone here actually looking at it for me and I prefer a COUPLE of people to look at them independently for me...

There is a 87 5 speed being discussed up here in the PNW Brian. Worth a look. I have been to see/drive listed price (been dropping from 12k) is $7900. Here's the Yahoo group thread:

Any S4 under $10k is going to need a LOT of help! There was an '89 here in Austin for just under $10k. Only needs a complete paint job and some interior work to start with...who knows what else... To have a nice looking car in and out and a nice driving car you would be putting another $10k in it EASY...I suspect this "cheap" '87 S4 will be the same story. Some people don't care if they drive a car that looks like $hit in and out and that is a fine ride for them...I can't stand that personally, so for me no bargain 928 EVER IS... They end up on the save thread! LOL!

As best I can tell there are very very few "won't have to put any money into it" 928's regardless of sales price, except for one or two of the ones in James garage

The difference in the long run is likely how good you look sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck as it seems to me regarless of how nice the paint and interior and how thick the service records every 15-30 YO car will stop running for some reason at some point

James provides sound counsel. Every 928 buyer should have a clear understanding of what they are buying into. There is no such thing as a cheap 928 at any sales price

But it doesn't mean that the cheap ones at time of sale are not as much fun as a premium priced 928. The difference is I know I bought a POS (in the eyes of some here and my lovely bride)! I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. And despite the challenges I would do it again because a large part of the fun is belonging to this band of brothers (i.e. gluttens for punishment)

Let's Face it, the only folks that can truely understand / appreciate the 928 appeal are other 928 owners either former, current or the want to be's.
