Not in some ROW markets like Germany. Even some '89 still have only two point belts.

 

Yep, UK 928's had 2-point belts in 1989.

In Australia, all 928's had 3-point belts from the factory.

 

If anyone is looking for a more cost effective option, I have this one in the back of my 928 and it fits great!

Not a booster, but good for a child that is in a front facing seat.

Good stuff, Ted. Make note, this is a good solution for children up to 35 lbs.

 

Actually 40 lbs, 35 in rear facing mode (which is almost impossible in a 928 unless they are in the front).

My wife is on maternity leave right now. While I am at work, she take out the 928 once in a while. She puts our 3 yr old son in the back in his front facing seat and we have a portable rear facing that she puts our 6 mth old daughter in the front seat (no airbag so it is legal). She gets quite the looks driving around giving the baby a bottle in the front seat, supercharger whine and all!

This is to be used with a should belt, so pre-'88 folks will need to retrofit a shoulder belt.

This seat is under 16" wide, which means it will fit perfectly in the narrow backseat buckets. (reference Radian65SL @ 17" wide)
Also, the bottom is relatively smooth, which will help protect your nice leather seats.

Pretty cool. Should fit well in the seat. I've always felt that the buckle receiver sits so far forward though that nothing really seems to work truly well.

Great thread. I'm trying to get a good carseat into a 1987 S4 so I followed everyone's advice and I think I'm close but I've encountered a couple of obstacles.

Here's what I did:

I bought the Radian65SL


I bought the Kidsafe tether anchors from Australia. They arrived no problem.

My intent was to use the carseat with the lap belt through the rear facing position, due to the height of the lap belt connector, the back tether and also the LATCH system. I figured the more things holding down the carseat the better.

Problem #1 was that the LATCH system of the Radian does not fit into the Kidsafe anchors. The anchors are a U shape that is too small for the black plastic LATCH connectors to fit into it so it can snap closed.

So I went to a machine shop and had them modify them so that the LATCH fit. Here's a pic (the original is on the left):

Problem solved!

Problem #2: I wanted to attach one anchor to the whole to the left of the suspension mount and one on the suspension mount bolt itself. I had seen another forum post that showed this. The problem is that the Kidsafe anchor holes are too small for the bolts, so I had to put all of them on the one bolt.

The middle one is meant for the top tether and the other two on the sides are for the LATCH connectors.

The LATCH connectors work great.

The top tether not so much.

Problem kind of solved.

Problem #3: What I found is that the tether is attached very low on the carseat, so that it has to go up, over the back of the backrest of the 928 seat, and then down to the anchor. This seems stupid because I can't get any tension in the tether.

This problem I have yet to solve.

Overall the car seat seems pretty well secured. The lap belt is in, the LATCH connectors hold the seat securely back, but the top tether is kind of useless.

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out where I went wrong.

this is the problem. the top tether going up and then down again. can't make get it to be tight. i wonder if the Radian is a good fit after all.

You can't! The drop angle of the rear seat pocket without a massive foam block build up will cause the angle to be fatal.

 

Those are big words .... how would youy determine it would be fatal? I can see "difficult" or "impossible" ... but to determine it would be "fatal" how?
