Thanks!
Psychotic... obsessed... etc,
It'll be in my posession for a long time, and I intend to drive, take care of it and enjoy it... and make upgrades to it as I go... Can't afford to do it all at the same time!!
After it's painted re-assembled and driving... I'd like to pickup a set of S4 brakes for it, and continue to upgrade things!!!

Great work, even the sway bar. That color is super. Don't let any of that dam dust I see get in any of the open engine items. When I had my engine out I stood in there and cleaned the walls with gear oil, then sanded, primed, and painted the main crossbeam. Lot of work.
That should be really sweet when done.

Thanks, appreciate all the positive feedback...
It's an incredible machine! I want it to look as good as when it came outta the factory. Maybe even improve a couple of things!!

Josh i didnt find the bolt for the upper bellhousing sorry,
BTW before you turn the steering rack,
dress down the corroded areas or the rack seals will fail within a few turns. put some grease on the inner rack to keep it from further corrosion and put on the rack boots.
Nice job on the engine,
let me know if you wanna change out the belt to HTD i found a crank drive gear its not great but it should work and i may also have an aluminum oil pump gear in HTD its still good,
but the updated part is steel

Well done but in all reality that rack needs to be professionally re built (re ground) or replaced with a good one. Now would be the time to do it.

the dust is over spray from various painting jobs and not covering up the pieces it comes off but it will take a bit of scrubbing.
Imoo your prolly right about the rack

Yes... the dust is blue overspray... I had the cam covers/ intake plenum on top of my shelf in the garage when I sprayed the jetta.... I completely forgot that they were up there. The majority of it wipes right off, and what doesn't wipe off comes right off with mequire's cleaner wax...
As for the steering rack... That's an easy fix down the road. I will dress down the rod for temporary use... but as for replacing/rebuilding the rack right now... don't have the cash, and it wasn't leaking much at all... however the p.s. hoses were a different story altogether.. that rust you see isn't pitting... it's flash rust from the washings/degreasing sessions it recently endured.
The cash is ear marked for paint, body, brakes, engine, and transmission. I will replace down the road.. just not right now! Too much expense... After it's painted it might get driven to work a couple times and then put back into the garage for winter... so the steering rack will be a winter project!
