It's pretty ragged out. I passed on it a long time ago.

This is why we don't see many 928s

All production numbers are approximates collected from several sources. Porsche hasn't published actual numbers.

Model Model years Numbers made
928 (1, 2 1978-82 17669
928 S (3 1980-83 8315
928 S/S2 (4, 5, 6 1984-86 14347
928 S4 (7 1987-91 15682
928 CS (8 1988-89½ 19
928 SE 1988 42
928 GT (9 1989½-91 2078
928 GTS (10 1992-95 2904
Total 1978-95 61056

These cars will be collector cars, 61,056 produced in 17 years is not that many when you compare the amount of vehicles on the road. And another thought of how many have been wrecked or are being parted out, which leaves how many surviving 928s?

The last one I spotted I was zoning out at a red light, saw this sports car going through the intersection.

Thought to myself, "that's a nice Porsche".

HEY! Wait a minute, that's a 928!

Ha ha...

I work in Shelton, so I'm all that far from New Haven, so it might be possible. BTW, do you ever go to the Cars and Coffee at F40 motorsports? I went for the first time last weekend. Lot's of nice cars there, including a very nice black 82 928. They also had this 30's era thing with 3 wheels and a flathead v8. Given the small size, it probably had good pickup, but would be terrifying taking a turn at anything faster than parking lot speeds.

Definitely more fun than the typical cruise night, where the only thing you see is yet another Firecamarabirdistangillac.

Weird

I actually live in Bethany and work in the 'Shire. Where on the shore do you live?

Firecamarabirdistangillac - LOL!!!!

I have not been to Cars and Coffee at F40 motorsports - I would love to join in though! I found out about them last week while researching Ferrari Daytona's (it didn't take long to realize that there will most likely never be one in my garage!) but I didn't know they do a regular coffee run. Please post/PM a link or details or whatever... Thanks!

Come to think of it, other than the 'usual suspects', I've seen more Aston-Martins around town than 928s. When was the last time I saw a 928 I don't know? Have to think about that for a few minutes ...

True stories;
My mother woke me in the middle of the night up when I was 6 years old to show me a very strange object hovering over a nearby field by our home. Was a very surreal and rare experience. Many years later my wife taps my shoulder during a nice midday drive to point out a black s4 at a gas station. It was surreal and rare experience. Gives you an idea of how often I see 928s here in Ohio.

You are more likely to see a "LEAR 35" landing on Glenstone Avenue here where I live ,than see a 928 on the road..unless you count the 95 GTS I drove to work in this am !!!Someone has to do it..lol

Like most of you its the same around here too hardly ever see one in my area.
I know of only one other besides mine and have not seen it out this year. I'm guilty too tho of not providing the public with the "rare 928" sightings. Mines up on the stands awaiting service.

Just came back from vacation in the San Diego area. While on the road into the foothills I saw a 78 or 79 928 5 speed in sun-bleached green with Pascha interior up in Ramona, CA. Wasn't able to catch up with the owner to chat...

sounds very much like the same exact car that inspired this thread, and could very well be.
