Why is red considered undesirable by so many?

I like red 928's but I like most of the other colors better. Red is common on the 928 and therefore not as interesting visually.
I like the fringe colors for their uniqueness.

Anecdotally, people believe that red sports cars will catch a cop's attention over less-extroverted colors.
I do not believe it, because I've never noticed a predominance of red cars pulled over on the side of the road getting tickets. If anything, I think I see more P-O-S hoopties pulled over than nice cars.

I like red cars, but I wouldn't want to drive one. I don't want to stick out easily.
My wife's Corvette is yellow. Looks nice, but I wish she had gotten a less flashy color.

Thanks to all for the input.
The issues surrounding red cars are now crystal clear to me and I no longer feel like I am alone in my love of red sharks.
Seems that to some they are too visible, too common, and too attractive to the local county constables.
As I had said previously, the 928 looks delicious in so many different color offerings and I do agree that color has so much to do with a cars personality.
With that said, I do love my obnoxious, loud, pampered, 1 of only 14 red, 5speed GTS's available this side of the pond.
Thanks again to all for their thoughtful commentary.

It's the color of the red on the 928 that turns me off, not it just being red.
It seems to have some orange in it, which I don't like.
My old '87 VW Golf had a fantastic red finish. After a good hard scrubbing, that paint would become insanely deep and rich, without a hint of orange, and I would love to see that finish on a 928.

My 90 GT was guards red, I think the code was G2G2.
My 76 914 was called Wine Red, not sure what the code was, but it was a darker deeper red than guards red and I really liked it.

There is nothing "wrong" at all with the look of red. It's simply a matter of personal preference.
But there IS a concern I have about red... My first job after high school was at an Autohaus with body and paint shop. The paint master tech pointed out that many red and burgundy cars we got in had faded paint - many more than other colors. He explained that these colors have trouble absorbing the UV light, and therefore fade more quickly. Of course, you can counteract this with proper care, but it will take more of it than cars of other colors.
I ignored his advice once, buying a burgundy metallic Ford Probe. And yes, this became the most faded car I've ever had.
Keep that red shiny, and you have a beautiful car to enjoy!

I guess I'm kind of partial to polar silver metallic I'm a bigger fan of no rub strips.
Red looks great too. I definitely wouldn't want a black one, IMO they definitely show dirt the most. White i just don't understand, too plain for my taste. Though I think a 928 looks good in any factory color just 'cuz it is such a beautiful body.

I've never been much into paint but love bright yellow on a go-fast car. Red is nice, but I concur with the ticket magnet anecdotes, it looks fast just sitting in the driveway. No, I've usually run either bad paint or primer. No one looks at you twice, thinks it must be a beater. Til you make them look bad by leaving them in your mirrors. My running gear is well maintained, it just looks slow.
