Default 928 Estate wins GT3 class time trial!!!

http://www.ncracing.org/tt-standings.php

A week ago I took the 928 Estate to Thunderhill with NCRC and ran in GT3 (spec miata) class time trials..... This time I got FIRST PLACE!!!! Only 8 cars were listed in the TT, but the Estate showed a strong 4th overall only a second off the 2nd place car.....

I love waving the 928 flag at the track....by far my favorite thing to say about the 928 is "stock-stock-stock"....since everything really is....a true "Gut and go racer"....other than slight suspension mods and brake pads-lines...it really is stock...

I would say the smiles per $$$ factor of the Estate are even higher than Spec Miata.... since the Estate can beat all but the best driven SM's at less than 1/2 the cost...for example a new "race" spec miata engine is $6k.....mine was $300.00 :>)

I do think I will finally have to change the front brake pads.....after 51 hours on track, they are a bit worn!!!!! Rotors still look great!

Please keep updates coming as you run the car!

Just like the Kibort racing program and the Mark Anderson racing videos, your exploits are a major inspiration at this household. We watch 'em all.

At some point one of us will be out there on the track with a similar package to yours. Well, maybe not the shooting break version.

BTW, that's gotta help visibility. Does it?

Congrats!

Way to go Brian!
Since its not Lemons car anymore, why don't you put stock rear hatch back on it? Might improve laptimes a bit...

More great video from my friend Ted in his Mustang Cobra!! In turn two right after I passed Ted you can see a bit of smoke from under the Estate...I can't tell if its just rich exhaust...but that makes sense since the car will "cake up" with black soot all across the rear....

I have thought about removing the shooting brake..BUT we did cut off the c pillars and modified the hatch pretty heavily to make the estate & I think the estate is lighter given that we only used thin sheet aluminum and less than stock amount steel to make it.....probably not much...but the estate is pretty light at 2794lbs empty which is quite good considering the blower fan, wipers and most of the bumpers are still there and the auto is about 50lbs heavier too......and also my racing budget is quite limited right now & I'd rather spend the funds on track than changing the car....

Bottom line is I am out there having a BLAST....and the car is very fast given its stock nature...

Congratulations, it's great to see more 928's on the track destroying modern day sports cars; keep the kill stories coming!

Well, we got you doing it now too! good for you . Great job and I bets some good handling of the stick too.
I was waving the "stock" banner for a while, but then Bailey, said i have mistery, tweeked cams, pumped up engine, etc, and when I put in the stock 86 cams in (older than stock), it still put down the same HP. also, when we pulled the motor, everything was stock. stock stock stock.

Its crazy. think about what cars are running 1:37s at laguna. did you happen to see that Petrone racer that was racing his GT3RSR that had been heavily modified for the track, losing to me the first race and barely being .5 seconds faster the second? this is a 23year old 928 folks!! (with a $5-10k engine upgrade and not much more else.

anyway, I think bang for the buck is pretty important these days, and if you are having fun too, it makes it a formula for a great overall situation. Plus, who would want to listen to that miata whine when you can have a V8 growl????????

nice job.

now, go win a GTS-2 race and then pop off! that will URK!!! the BMW guys, trust me!

NASA GTS2 is next on the list!!!! I would say that the E36 325is is faster than any specE30....and I had no trouble passing it....oddly enough not in the power section, but in the handling section???

I need to get a NASA logbook, add a window net and I think my belts are out of date too....so its in my winter plans!! Well that and an uber-cheater 5 speed conversion!!! The only downside to the 5 speed is the minus 50lbs which I really DON'T need to loose to still make GTS2....but I could always ballast to make weight!

I do think a rear wing on the Estate would work really well....since its in clean air....but I don't really need more downforce in the back, I need it in the FRONT
