So does this mean a road trip? People who are tight lipped (unless they are Mainers) are tough to deal with.

Kevin, what do you mean about the junk title?

SteveG...........If the car has a "junk" title, it means that the title has been surrendered, and the car is basically no longer a "car" anymore. DMV will issue a junk or salvage certificate, and it is now "officially" a pile of parts vs a "car".

Question is.........Is it deemed as "non-rebuildable" for some reason? If so, it definitely cannot be re-registered for the street.

It will give its life so that other GTS's can live on Tom...don't worry...bits of the car will be found all over the world when it is all said and done...VERY SAD though I agree! That ANYONE lets a GTS's get like this is criminal!

If you bought this for say $12k and sent $12k restoring it… it would look like a car worth more than $30K and be hard to sell for $20K… but I doubt it will sell for that.

Really if you could buy the car for $15+K and if you only spent $5-K restoring doing the work yourself … you could possibly be driving a GTS with GT type money. That assuming the engine runs and the leather can be restored. That’s a whole lot of if’s that probably can’t be answered without seeing it in person or getting a professional opinion.

Never heard of a junk title only a salvaged title, but from my understanding a car gets a savaged title when the repair estimates exceed X% the market value of the vehicle… where X is typically somewhere between 50 and 75%

Found some interesting definitions hear… so in some state a stolen car becomes a salvaged title.

http://www.carfax.com/definitions/glossary.cfm

Looks like the rules vary widely by state. My guess is South Dakota is more lenient, but it appears that if you jump through the correct hoops you can get these registered anywhere… even in California.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr13.htm

http://www.ehow.com/how_5009661_regi...e-vehicle.html

So there is still hope that someone wants to take on this project…

This was posted 6/29: "Do you have additional pictures of this car? Is the odometer reading of 40.000 miles accurate? Any additional info on this auction would be appreciated. Thanks, Chuck.
A: hi..ebay notified me that they want to verify my location and have placed my auction on hold. I am going to re-list once they verify my i.d. sorry for the inconvience. thank you s4blk@yahoo.com

I don't see any "hold" on the auction, but I'm not going to bid, just to check the situation; I never heard of the location issue, but his activity on ebay is only to buy 4 items since 2009. So another wrinkle to the story(ies).

This is the worst type of car on ebay to bid on. The faults might not as obvious to some as to others, so you get a high number of bidders that actually have a low chance of competing the purchase. People who bid carelessly assuming their bid is low compared to value, without a good idea of value, and then back out after winning and inspection or more thought.

Didn't someone say this has a FL destruction title? Sounds worse than salvage or even junk. Makes me think that the state is saying despite the ability to make the car "road worthy" there is too much potential for hidden damage to allow resale to the general public.

VIN:WP0AA2927PS820138

Wasn't listed as a total loss via National Insurance Crime Bureau free search, but looks like that is based off carfax.

Get 30 of us gambling types to kick in $1000 each to buy the car and sort it out, money spent supporting our sponsors and wrenches

Raffle it off between the 30

Someone other than Willhoit gets a GTS cheap, and the rest of us throw $1000 uselessly at a 928, which we're all used to by now anyway

Winner responsible for titling

Kevin, what do you mean about the junk title?
It is issued when a particular DMV doesn't want a particular car to ever see the road again. We also have a PA. State Salvors license and handle all the P.D. local impounds. When we get junk titles we scrap it. They are next to impossible to reregister, in any state. Rebuildables get salvaged. As an aside , I offered this guy(Mike) 13,000 for this GTS and he got a bit upset at this "lowball offer".
The guy is really hard to read.

Kevin: $13K and he is upset, wow. That is "wholesale" money on a decent GTS and this far from decent. Assuming this isn't a scam, and I think there is a point beyond which there is no difference in the distinction, he is hurting b/c that is the best he is going to do. Did I say sad earlier, it is also painful to watch when this happens. OTH a good GTS engine is worth holding, but this is a dark spot in a black hole.

He should have taken the 13 large and run like the wind! Only somebody like you with your resources and skills could put this Humpty Dumpty back together again. Sit tight, he'll be back........

What a bonehead ... this guy buys this "salvage" car, transports it to SD and stashes it in a barn ... won't take the most minimal efforts to preserve it ... gives vague and evasive answers to people's inquiries and after all of that, is "insulted" that someone only offers $13K ???
