Default seat belt relay, wow what a high price!

While TS my start but won't stay running issue I finally took a look at the fuse panel while jumping the fuel relay.

As luck woulkd have it I seem to be missing a couple of relays.

1. High beam Power - 928 615 119 00 selling for ~$20 - oops, got to pay attention - this one is not missing!
2. Seat belt - 928 618 102 00 ~$45- wow I know why it is missing

Any alternatives?

Thanks

get a fuse relay chart here www.928gt.com, ( its on page 2 under tips and links) then verify that you have the correct relays in the respective positions also make sure that the correct slots are empty. Do the same for the fuses

Thanks Merlin,

Thats actually what I used to confirm the empty holes and prices. I have not pulled the other to confirm what is there. An excellant idea give that the PO was obviously a tinkerer!

I did notice that in Sharkskin's write up on the fuse panel refurb that his panel was also missing the seat belt and high beam power relays in his starting pic as well.

Is this a common state for 78/79 928's?

Is the seat belt one the gonging one? If so, I'll be in Austin next week and you can have mine.

After paying closer attention to Merlins guidance, pulling my head out of my A-- and paying closer attention to the chart I realized that the empty relay slot in the top row is relay postion VIII which should be blank

So only relay that is missing is the seat belt relay. If I am reading the wiring flow correctly that relay is also tied into the ignition key chime and interior light functions.

As mentioned earlier I have seen sharksins write uo on the panle refurb and his was aslo not installed. Not sure if he removed it prior to the photo or if it is common for folks to ditch this relay for reasons I have yet to discover.

Brett,

Thanks for the offer but looking at your signature line the relays used in the 88 or 90 928 are different PN's so I assume they would not be compatable unless you have an old one from a 77-79. Plus 928 specialists lists those at~$160 thats getting up there in gold value territory based on weight!

Yeah, you've got to look at those teeny-tiny labels and arrows/carets on the panel very, very closely to make sure the right relay is in the right spot. I had a pair of adjacent relays switched on my car - which turned out to be the cause of my odd window function.

I've (permanently) pulled at least three chime relays. Are you interested in me cross-checking the numbers for you?

So what is driving the removal of the relay? Does it impact more than the seat belt chime as the wiring diagram would suggest?

Thanks

The seat belt relay on the early cars is different to the later ones and much cheaper so stick with the
928 618 102 00 = $41.03.
The seat belt chime relays 928 618 102 03 are like Gold Dust selling for $221.00.
Mark at 928 International has used for better prices.

Thanks Roger.

Sorry to be ignorant, but I don't know what-all it does.

Just that it doesn't chime anymore when I open the door.

I don't have a chime when I open the door. I also noticed my "Fasten Seat Belt" light to the right of the clock doesn't light up. Is that what the relay will restore? I assumed the PO pulled it because it was annoying. Anyone got a video clip so I can see and hear what I'm missing on a OB?
