Default Installing S4 spoiler - adhesive film question...

Hi guys,

Did anyone here did a spoiler replacement? WSM calls for what looks like a piece of adhesive film on each side that goes between the spoiler and body frame. How important it is to have these and what purpose do they serve (my guess would be watersealing)? I have hard time locating them so I wonder if I can get away without them or if there is a home recepie of some kind (thinking of double side tape or something).

Thank You!

I spoke with 928specialists two weeks ago. They did not have them in stock, but promised to get them last week. Order is still pending, so I'm looking around to see if there is an alternative solution...

Yes, there is a piece of moderately heavy, self-adhesive clear film on either side. I took off my spoiler and found these still stuck to the body. I think they're intended to keep water from running down around the mounting bolts. A lot of good it did, mine were all corroded and two broke off :-(

When my spoiler goes back on I will probably use some leftover 3M side moulding tape to take the place of the clear stuff. Should compress well enough to seal it all up and even add a little bit to the holding power of the 4 bolts.

I've been using a 3M extra-heavy plastic adhesive-faced film for items like this. I buy it on dispenser rolls and cut it with scissors or an Exacto knive. It's disguised as box sealing tape. Get the extra-heavy-duty stuff, not the standard flimsy product, and you may be happy with it. It's good for protecting paint where it might get abraded. Replaces the film on the hatch where the little rubber side wedges center the hatch, for instance.

I would suggest to 3M paint protectant film, I use it on bumper installs where the bumper meets the chassis also can be used for lens coatings and on the front side of the mirrors ,.
check Ebay buy a roll of it make sure to get the 3M if you go this route as the other makers of the film are not as good

I buy the 3M tape at Office Depot. Heavy-duty box sealing tape. It's not as thick as the protectant film used for the lenses or paint shield, and most importantly is not UV protected for continuous exposure. For protecting the paint under the spoiler mount, pinched between the paint and the spoiler, it works great.
