Got keyed once and then some little bastard decided to make himself a parking place by shoving MY car out of the way with his car to make a space. Sounds like nothing's changed.

You might also consider one of these!

I THINK tho that new laws may have passed a few years back that allows them to use aftermarket parts if new ones are 'above reasonable cost', they should have to tell you tho.
That would not be my worry, they can look at the new parts cost and total the car based on whatever their misguided idea of what a 928 is worth.

So heres the update.
In about a week the claims process was handled (last thursday) and I could finally get started on working on the car.
I got seals and such rushed down to me, drove up to Santa Monica to get a quarter panel from Michael and then Brenden met me at my place on Sunday with the rest of the glass!
The glass swap process wasn't that bad and we were able to do it in a reasonable time even with the little slipups that would happen.
I am completely booked and was only able to recover the car until this morning when I was able to clean it up.

Here is the fruit of our labors:

as you can see the rear quarters have a nasty home job tint that needs addressing, but I will get that handled by the tinter. Otherwise turned out pretty nice.
With my settlement minus my deductible I was able to pay for these used windows and all the necessary things needed and also be able to pay for the things not covered with what I saved on the glass like the tools, etc...

Thanks goes to Michael(bigblock), Brenden(BC) and his wife for the help and allowing him to come down, and all the other help offered and encouragement from the list.
Now seeking a rear hatch cover to hide anything back there, and a new hatch carpet as there was enough glass dust in there to coat a factory full of drill bits.

It looks better now. Have you driven it? Maybe through a car wash to see how we did on the sealing process. That's always a concern of mine.

That tint on the quarters is not so much of a home tint job as its probably 20 years old. They turn that wonderful blue color in about a decade.

It didn't take as long as I thought it was going to. And now I know how to install my door glass since I did it on your car - what - 5 times?

If anyone is still playing along at home:

GET the little plastic and metal female threaded pieces that stick into the window at the bottom bracket that rides on the window slider pieces. The break.

Sean, shoot me a pm if you are interested in an aftermarket radio. One came along with my 928 that I'm not planning on keeping. Would love to pass it along... Let me know if you want details.

That's a shame! When I first read the post I thought you were lucky they didn't steal it. That car is SWEET! I have had two cars stolen and that is a really bad feeling. You never see them again or if you do it's totaled.

I like the glass not tinted. I think it looks great. I just took all my tint off.The first time I backed up I thought I had the hatch up because it was so clear!

Nice job, beautiful car!

drove it around a bit and its great. With NOTHING in the rear including any carpeting or anything it is louder from exhaust, otherwise NO problems.
The cleaning job here you see is with a pressure washer so there seems to not be a problem with leakage, although I will continue to monitor.

I like the no tint look on some cars, the tint was the LAST thing I did to the car and looking at pics and thinking I went with the tint and think it looks killer on black cars. Also it helps with the parking outside thing, a garage is helpful to be tint free.

Michael thanks again, i see you have yet another screen name, lol

Glad things worked out. Hopefully not too much out of your pocket.

Here is something I learned many years ago when living in an apartment during college in a not so good part of town. When you get about 1.5 miles from home turn the radio way down so that it can't be heard outside the car. When opening the hatch make sure no one is around and scoping out the car. By doing this I was able to keep a really high end system in my car for two years (until I moved) while literally two other cars were being broken into almost every 4 months. You might want to tint your rear hatch before putting anything else into the car.

My MR2 was broken into when I lived in the College Area. Smashed a window, stoled my pocket watch and $.37.
When I lived in Rancho Sante Fe, I never even bothered to put the T-tops on.
