Default Just purchased 88 Black/Dove Grey

I let the cat out of the bag with a few of the DFW crew, and Richard up in OKC. I know this thread is........... but will post pics once it is sitting in the driveway.

Sold my 84 to a gentleman a month or so ago. Have to thank the DFW crew for helping me work the bugs out of it. Think all the local members at some point helped me fix something on that car. Was a great first 928!

Have been wanting an S4 for some time now...just need a bit more! Was in no hurry, just been waiting on the right deal.

Car is an 88, Rogerbox, with 140K on it. Black with Dove Grey interior. All stock.

Car is going back to Planet 911 on Tuesday to have a few small issues addressed (alignment, top of freon, a small power steering leak fixed). Car will be dropped of on Tuesday. I will pick it up as soon as he is done with it. PO did not have a receipt for the TB replacement. She said it was done a few years ago but could not find invoice. She has quite a bit of paperwork on it. Has new motorsports radiator, all drive belts, fuel pump and relay, rack, boots, some misc. lines replaced (fuel & PS), rear axle boots redone, brakes, plugs, filters, cap/rotor, all in the last year or so.

May trailer it home till I can get the Timing Belt changed on it. All the other issues can wait and I will tackle them one at a time as I drive it.

Had a PPI done by Dumonts. Have to say Mike was a very nice guy! Spent almost an hour just on the phone with me. Very clean interior, one small crack in the dash. No damage to exterior, and very presentable.

Issues he noted were oil pan gasket is leaking, rear air works front does not (vacuum leak/hot water valve?), tranny pan gasket leaking, upper ball joint boots cracked, one valve cover gasket weeping were the bigger things. A handful of small bulbs not working, turn signal switch dont "lock"....... and so on. None bad enough to not be able to drive it.

Currently on the hunt for a set of wheels and tires (Carerras, Cayman S, ect) for it as we speak. Sold the Carerras that were on my 84 with it.... knew I would kick myself for doing that!

Again, as soon as it arrives I will get some pics and more info posted.

it sounds like you got a good deal.
if the car is running with no problems then drive it home
trailering can damage the suspension and transmission and the paint work and the windshield

Car runs fine. Sean said the same, drive it. Will most likely do so, will just take it easy till I get the TB changed.

When you get it in, give me a call. I would love to see it since I'm right around the corner. Great find!

Congrats on the purchase!

Just take a kempf tool and a deep 27mm socket/ratchet with you to pick up the car - pull the one belt cover, measure belt tension, adjust it.

Then unplug the timing belt tension circuit (where it comes out the center cover), idle the engine for 3 minutes until you've verified the warning system works and the light comes on.

Plug it all back together, and drive the stink out of it on the way home, safe in the knowledge that the warning light will tell you if you need to call a trailer

PO is supposed to drop it off on Tuesday. Not sure if it will be done by Friday, will know more in the next day or so. Friday is our last day of school, I have a end of year staff party on Sat. night. Not sure if I will make it to the GTG or not. Should see more of me over the summer and have plenty of time to work on it. Only question is will I be able to keep my tab up to date with Roger!
RDK, I have some pics but they are on my laptop the is getting worked on today. Got some anti-spyware junk that keeps running. He gets it cleaned up will post what I have.

You said that last summer and you fell off the face of the earth buddy. Seeing as how you have summers off, we thought we'd need a search party to find you.
