Unhappy I'm done... EVERYTHING for sale.

Hello all,

I have not been around in awhile. I tried renewing my membership, but I am receiving errors when using the paypal link in the premium membership tab...

I am going to try again tomorrow, so I can list everything for sale. I've been working on an 89' Slate Grey auto and a Meteor Grey 86.5 auto. The 86.5 has been on hold since accquiring the 89'. I have put so much work into the 89', but luck has just not been with me. I went through the front end of the motor right before Sharktoberfest. I installed a Porkensioner, replaced cam gears, crank gear and oil pump gear with a steel replacement. I rebuilt the power steering pump, and replaced the cam belt with Porsche OEM. I swapped in a auto tranny from an 88', installed a Constantine clamp while I was in there, installed a repaired front spoiler, replaced the front fuel pressure regulator (after finding fuel at the tranny kick down line) and drover her to Sharktoberfest. On the fun run, most of the way up the mountain, the only water hose I didn't replace (the small curved hose off the water bridge) burst. I was able to cut off a little bit and get it home. I drove it back and forth to work a bit then the aluminum ball joints started making noise in sharp turns. Then shortly after, the 88' tranny started letting go about 350 miles since it was swapped into the car. I've been starting the car weekly to keep her healthy until I could get some time to wrench her back to life again....

I decided this weekend was the time to swap in the S4 suspension and brakes, (which were donated by the wonderful people on this list) and possibly next weekend get the original 89' tranny (with the lower gears) into a shop for rebuild. I went to start the 89' yesterday to bring the car into the garage, it cranked a few times, fired and then thud.... locked up... I thought maybe the tensioner let go or something, I checked the timing cover holes but the belt looked good and all else looked right. I went into the house completely pissed, I cracked a beer and came back with the hopes that maybe something in the tranny let go and caused the lockup. A long trail of oil had poured from the engine down to the sidewalk. I'm assuming a connecting rod broke and punched a hole through the oil pan. I'm assuming this, because I haven't even jacked up the car to look. I've been sick to my stomach grieving over the car all day. I threw some cat litter on the oil and have tried to forget it happened. No amount of beer could fix it...I'm devestated right now and still in disbelief that this has happened. The motor wasn't making any odd noise or knock at all before the tranny let go, It had tons of power too...I am just in shock right now and I am tired. My daughter shattered her knee on a skateboard in February, but I've been able to keep the S4 in the shedule until this. I just don't have the resources right now to give what it needs. I need cash for the familly, and I'm commited to just buying a nice dialed shark in the future when things pick back up for me... I've just put so much time in wrenching without enough wheel time to keep me at it.

I've got a lot of parts and I'm going to let everything go cheap. I've got lots of stuff for the 86.5 including an excellent shape short block, good heads and cams, full gasket sets, motor mounts, design 90 wheels, etc, etc. I suppose I could part the cars, but I'm more interested in just making someone a deal for everything...Hopefully local to SoCal. If anyone wants to call dibs on anything or everything, you can email me at: mballard38@hotmail.com

I will post an official for sale thread with a full list of items and some photos as soon as I get my membership to renew. Hopefully tomorrow morning...

Thanks all....

Hi Mike:

I'm so sorry to hear about all the bad luck you had with your shark. Hopefully, you will find a new home for it, or find a way to fix it up the way it should be. Maybe you can find some locals to assist you a bit in getting it done.

Either way, best of luck to you, and best wishes for your daughter's recovery!

Aww crap. You've got more than your fair share of bad luck with these cars. I can say please reconsider, but I'm not in your situation. That being said, $3000 for both is rather low, I think you can ask more. And since you're selling anyway, might want to look what gave way in the engine. Good luck, hope you get to have a nice assorted 928 some day.

Mike, sorry to hear this.

I see a lot of value in parts there, but understand the frustration.

The constantine and computers and maf total $1000 in < a week on rennlist, net shipping.

Try to keep the stuff in the hands of enthusiasts if you can. If you can bear the disassembly, make a game out of it or something, involve the kids, you might win-back a lot of $.

Mike, that is really a bad run, maybe you could take a few days and think about it, and if not Mark will take it.

Sucks man.

He may type very well when he is drunk. Lets let the man wake up to what he did and if he wants to "take back" then Mark A should let him. How many of us have felt the same way? How close were we to posting it?

Look at the time of his post - nearly 3am.

Link to a CL for an 88 that needs an trans. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1763446379.html, referenced by another lister,
may have a good engine and might be worth combining with your 89.

Mike, you are a very handy person. Part those cars and make 4-5 times more than your asking price.

Sorry to hear this Mike. I have been there too. One of the reasons I looked for a low miles early model - very little wear and tear (let the debate begin), and very easy (comparatively) to work on and fix compared to the later cars. I get to just enjoy the car more, without some of the worry, expense and hassle.
Your price is crazy low for what you have. However, it sounds like you have many other irons in the fire, so it is what it is. Mark will either get one or both back on the road I'm sure.
Look forward to seeing you back here someday.

Really sorry to hear about your bad luck.
It really is depressing when such a streak of unfortunate events happens.

PS. I too think you should reconsider selling, but in case you are serious with your decision, I'll be interested in later front A-arms, if they are good (both lower and upper).

If possible I'll take a gasket set for 85/86.
