Sunroof switch question.
Finally got some time to start working on my wife's 928 and I started to work on the sunroof since it doesn't open. Its in the closed position right now. I popped the cover off and hit the switch and it wouldn't open or close. I didn't have the tool to open it so I found that rubber piece between the motor and sunroof mechanism and started to rotate it and it gradually opened up. After about 10 minutes of doing this my hand got tired to I slapped a drill with a rubber wheel to it and opened it up in 5 seconds. Seems to work, but the switch only works to close it. Is there any way I can test the switch to make sure its working and not some other problem?
Open up your switch and make sure there are two steel ***** in it, and they are both seated properly under the springs. Be careful if you have to pick one to move, there are small holes in the bottom of the switch. I dropped and lost one through the hole.
Realize that the switch reverses polarity of the voltage making the motor spin one way or the other. If you start mashing the contacts with a tool (like I did to close my sunroof) it can be easy to blow fuses.
I replaced my switch and have no problems now (though my motor seems tired).

Dude, you rock. I took off the cap and both steel posts worked fine, but I pressed on the left side of the switch and it started to close it. I put the cap back on but I didn't get it to seat right and it actually opened & closed with not problem. So the problem is the switch.
Thanks!
While I'm at it, I'm having problem with the rear hatch. I pull up on the hatch ***** and it just grinds. What do I need to look at to make sure its working right?
Thanks!

I have no clue. Mine's an 82 and no interior hatch release. I presume it's cable-actuated, maybe you've got some binding somewhere? Does the mechanism require lube/alignment? Does the release ****/lever require lube/alignment? I don't know.
Love your avatar. I have in friend in VA Beach that runs Dyno Tuned Performance, Inc. Too bad he doesn't do any work on Porsche's.
I'm just the 2nd owner of this 84 928. The body is in great shape, paint is so so. But he really let go of some of the basics. This one has pull ***** on both sides of the seats that release the trunk. It also has 2 ***** on the doors. Whenever I try either of them, they have the same distinctive grinding sound. The doors and locks work, they just grind. I can hear the hatch try to release, but it makes the same grinding noise. I just assume get them all replaced... well... grinding is not a good sign when you hit a switch

I think I know what sound you're referring to. My driver door lock makes a strange grinding sound when actuated with the key. It's sounds like a rotary motor slowly spinning to drive the lock mechanism, but may need some serious re-greasing. In fact, I may work on this next week.
If the hatch release is the same as the door locks, it may just require some grease and adjustment. Do you have the WSM?
all of the elx door locks sound like they they are grinding, though the GTS cars may have different lock drivers.
The rear hatch is probably just an adjustment up or down of the motor position bolts (2 10mm bolts).
make sure that the motor is pressing the opener tab as far as possible into the receiver

I sprayed the mechanism and it still makes the grinding sound. I did notice that from the motor there is a rod that does move up and down, yet it won't open it up. I opened the hatch and push down on the spring (thingy) and it moves up and down, yet doesn't lock in place. Is this right? I took off the bolts that hold onto it, but it didn't make any difference. Could it be the receiver( springy thingy i call it) that could be the problem. Is it suppose to latch/lock itself down then once you pull the **** it releases?
