I don't recall parts numbers for the valves, they were custom made for this engine. Since the valves are "superalloy" (marketing speak for "steel"), the old valve seats just needed a new valve job. The retainers and springs are from Peterson American Corp, product number PAC-1223L, where L is for custom load. The spring seats are Ferrea's seats for LS-7, but apparently a competent machine / head shop could just fab those seats relatively cheaply when installing the heads.

I don't recommend doing what I did here to anyone. It ended up being a lot of trouble and money for decent but not great end result. But there were also fun moments, like for example figuring out that the mod Ford beehives fit in the 928 S4 heads.

As an aside, I have one custom-load beehive kit left that I'll sell for cost.

Still have that kit for sale? The issue of course is the keepers are for your custom valves.

No, but I was about to order another batch. Do you want some? The porsche and ford collet angles are the same so new porsche keepers should work fine. There's one set out there installed with aftermarket racing keepers and one set with porsche keepers.

How is the current batch working? Or are you like me and you put this stuff together and don't use it for years?

I am contemplating getting more S2 springs but they are just so god damned expensive for what it is - a slightly stronger spring than the S3/S4 stuff.

I have three or four sets of the oem stuff and am testing them carefully to see if I can pull out some "stronger" sets to make 32 for my rat motor.

The ford and P retainer angles are the same? So porsche keepers from my existing valves would work fine. In the aftermarket retainers it seems. I am not sure if that was 7 degrees or 8.

This is a single spring set it looks like from the search I did. Can you post the costs here or PM me the open pressures and heights at that rate?

Is the spring base more like the S4 base (4mm) or more like the S3 base (1.5, IIRC)?

BC,

I confirmed that the Porsche keepers are the same angle and work properly with this setup.
I have these in my own car and have put some miles on them. But will be putting more miles on.

I've made numerous calls to the suppliers and manufacture of these springs and have only heard of one spring failure, which was stated to have broken due to another part failing in the head.

The other brand of springs that are made in the same fashion are Assoc. spring and there have been numerous failures of their springs reported.

I'll pm you on the topic when I am back in Boston and not holding a shaker of reef cocktail (a drink, not an euphimism: pineaple juice, sparkling water, and dark rum) on the beach in Puerto Rico.

Anyone who's interested. These are stocked in shelf, PAC 1223 springs and associated retainers. If you need high seated loads, they can be run as is. I want lower seated loads, so I am having them reset to a lower load. There's a constant lot charge, so ordering more sets at the time is more economical. But anyone can email Peterson American Corp and get these from those guys.

How much lower are you making the rate?

Todd found the closed rate was not as important as the open rate on EAP.
