Default Achtung-82 Euro project begins

I am a first time 928 owner now. I returned from a 1700 mile 2 day trip to bring in from NC to Miami to NC with a U-haul auto transport. It was a non runner so I had to winch it on and off. Only the excitement of the 928 kept me going(very tiring trip by myself). This car is what you call a basket case but I like what I got for the price. It has a lot of character and is fairly unmolested. It looked like I was hauling Mad Max's last of the V-8 interceptors back from Miami. I see what you guys are talking about as far as the interest people give the car on the road. Car was a lot worse in person than in the ad pictures(also very big). On the trailer it looked like a piece of old high tech military equipment with the primer/green and those beautiful shapes. Car is straight and honest. I have already gutted the interior(which is all leather by the way-headliner,1/4 int panels, etc) and found a bunch of oxidized German coins in it. Lots of moisture has been in there. I got a lot of extra stuff from the PO I'll photo later. I am exhausted but very content with my new project. It's going to be a challenge. 1982 928S Euro 5 SPEED (M28/11)

Very cool, I like the color. It will be lots of work but in the end its worth saving. I saw that one some time ago and was tempted but I have enough projects already. Good Luck

Cool...Looks like fun. Have a PLAN. Don't get discouraged if you hit a bump, this and other forums are a TON of help. Don't feel like you have to fix everything right away. I think most people get overwhelmed when tackling something like this. Just focus and IT WILL be worth the work.

Welcome and enjoy.

Cool! Dash, glovebox, doorpanels, center console all look good! Some new carpet and your interior will be awesome. Great project.

Progress report- I am almost ready to pull engine. All I have left are the 2 top bell housing bolts. I have been removing things, accessing, cleaning and painting. Slow process but I haven't torn anything up yet. Looking through the top intakes the valves look and move good. Hopefully I'll be able to remove the heads next week and see what it looks like. My goal is to just clean up and reseal the engine and everything else.

Good plan, suggestion on something I regret not doing while the engine is out, spend some time to "carefully" clean the whole engine bay. Not a couple cans of spray and hose, or not just that (make sure no water goes in bad places like brake booster, clutch, wiring, etc.), but a careful small brush in all the nooks and crannys.

Hey, I just bought the same peg board blue plastic tool holder. Looks like it works pretty well.

Stage 1 accomplished! I rented a great pull behind engine hoist. Lots of reach. Did it all by myself so far.

Looking good...but where do you have your front jack stands???

Check for aluminum ball joints too. Magnet will work. If their not steel I would change before driving.

Also if you can locate a rattle can of spraypaint that's roughly that color (beautiful color, BTW) you can do quickie touch-ups while you're sitting in the engine bay. Like the shocktowers etc, just a fast layer on the obvious spots. Then, after it's all together and you open the hood to show people that it actually has a V8 they will be like "OMFG!"

You're gonna have a fantastic car when you're all done!

Spent all day cleaning the front of the engine and
pulling stuff off. Tonight I got the drivers side head off with no problems. One of the pistons tops has a new scratch on it and there is a shallow mark on the top inch of the cylinder wall that I can catch my fingernail on. Is this going to be ok? I didn't find a foreign object in the cylinder.
