What if that is the case? Maybe it's a mystery thing with the EZK and/or CPS? It couldn't hurt to get a new crankshaft position sensor and use another EZK.

What accounts for the index spike from the CPS? Is it a missing tooth, a differently-shaped tooth, or a pin?

I'd have a hard time imagining a missing tooth spontaneously regenerating, but a pin could have fallen out....

As I said earlier in this thread, a gap in the teeth at the reference point gives the larger pulse. The "sine wave" is the other 58 teeth passing the CP sensor.

It seems very strange how the sine waveform Stuart measures is OK, but no sign of the gap...

I will re do the CPS test again to be sure

Looking at page D28-11 in the WSM , the EZK plug pin holes facing, wires coming in from the left MY90 pin 18 lower and pin 35 upper is the start from the left, is this correct as i want to make sure i have correct way round of reading pin numbers

23+ and 6- are the ones i will be testing

That's correct..... #6 is the ground. (-ve).

There are 60 teeth positions on the flywheel. 58 teeth and a gap of two teeth. At a cranking speed of ca 60rpm, you should get one big pulse every second. And of course "sine pulses" every 10th of a second.

The 'scope seems to have problems trying to synch, there isn't much evidence of a larger reference pulse, but I'm not sure your 'scope is up to the job.

The CPS may be OK..... if it registers all the teeth then it can hardly fail to register the gap. You could get Adrian Clark to test your EZK in one of his cars.
