Here is the article -

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Performance sports car maker Porsche AG's sterling reputation for quality took a severe dent on Tuesday, when it recalled every Panamera it built only months after the model line was launched to much fanfare.

The announcement comes on the heels of a quality scandal at Toyota and serves as a bitter pill for Michael Macht, who headed up production before being named the brand's chief executive late in July.

The Panamera grand tourer was supposed to catapult Porsche to new levels of growth and help the brand steal customers away from such four-door coupes as the Maserati Quattroporte or Mercedes-Benz CLS.

In recent years, Porsche has repeatedly received top marks from J.D. Power for its industry-leading quality benchmarked in the research and consulting firm's annual benchmark surveys.

Porsche said all 11,300 Panameras would be brought to the mechanic to fix possible faulty seatbelt tensioners.

European automotive holding Porsche SE controls 51 percent of Porsche AG, with the remainder held by Volkswagen.

The news could prompt VW to take action. Martin Winterkorn, who serves as CEO of both Volkswagen and Porsche SE has repeatedly said that the better a brand performs, the more autonomy it gains within the overall group.

Volkswagen's reputation is also indirectly at stake, since its Hanover plant supplies the Panamera's painted bodies-in-white for assembly in Porsche's Leipzig plant.

Minor issue in my opinion. And it sounds like it will be something that is rather quick and cheap to fix. Luckily there aren't that many panamera's out there yet. They will be fine. At least they don't have the unintended acceleration. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What this means to me, other than the fact that the car is not to my taste, is that some where some one has stuffed a Panamera up and the pre-tensioners did not work as planed.

I hope they were not going off by them self, that would be bad, and painful if it just happened while wearing a seat belt.

It is actually scary how much explosives there are in a late model car.

Greg, it could have been in testing. They keep crashing these things even after they have approval of the designs from the TUV and DOT... You are right though, it sure seems like it would have been kept quiet if it had occurred in testing vs someone's hands while driving! OUCH!

I guess it very well could have been found during testing.
Once the problem was found though, they had little choice but to issue a recall after the bashing Toyota has gotten.

You got that right! Sit on this and let a few emails pile up on them about it and the US Attny Gen would sue them into extinction.

I really think that some of the stuff with Toyota had some political pressures being used.

This sort of thing has been going on for a long time, but now it is front page news.

The bad part is the guy that will take the heat at Porsche will not be the one who styled that ugly tank. (IMHO)

Ha this is nothing, this is what scares me about this car.... 1mm clearance. that is not much

"Porsche's engineers have also done some interesting packaging tricks with the all-wheel-drive system. A so-called "hang-on" torque distribution unit is bolted to the back of the gearbox. This electronically controlled clutch pack sends the torque to the front or rear axles as needed. The front differential housing is bolted directly to the side of the block and oil sump. Since the differential doesn't move relative to the center clutch unit, the drive shaft doesn't need any universal joints. The intermediate shaft that crosses through the sump, from the front differential over to the left half shaft, passes a mere 1 mm below the crankshaft bearing cap."
