There have been a few mention of our "catch-all", so it might be time to clarify.
In the space formerly occupied by the ashtray, and for those who want to delete said ashtray, we are planning to add a trimmed box. In it's simpler version, that box will simply what the tin says. Lined in either suede or leather and seamed much like I do my cupholders:

This will be a drop in unit, much like what is currently found on the Aston Martin Rapide. Although theirs is round and ours will be rectangular.
That unit can also be used for many other purposes, namely USB connectors, iPod connector/charger etc.
One can elect to put connectors in their center armrests like Dan is doing and keep this space as a useful "catch-all", or use the space to house their phone or iPod.
I am also working on a set of side panels for the center console that will carry some 12V connectors and may also house USB connectors. All of which will be trimmed and out of sight when not in use.

I think this is going to be a mod that will actually increase the value of a 928, but then again the ind of person who is going to install one of these is never going to find out because it will not be for sale.
I am excited about this.
Will there be a way to display engine and sharktuning data?

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

It is... I do it every day when I go to work. Can't beat a 7" touchscreen for ease of interface. The only problem is mine is not integrated into the dash, that would be even cooler. I have my umpc running Windows 7 and it takes ~5 seconds to come out of suspend mode, sharktuner already loaded up. With a laptop power adapter, it never runs out of battery. Start the car and watch all the engine parameters. Drive off and warm up, what is that slight stumble? Look down at the fuel map and make a small adjustment. I am so hooked that I'm not sure I will ever take it out.
And for those worried about power requirements, mine is a VIA C7-M 1.0Ghz low-power processor and I have had no problems running it in the car for almost a year now.

Sign me up! I've wanted to do something like this since I bought my first 928 9 years ago. I love that all these 928 products have been coming out lately from enthusiasts!

Sweet, it shouldn't be a problem the center consoles are identical in size and shape for ALL years of 928's. Some of the placements are a bit different but no the vent or the ashtray which define the extreme ends of this item and everything else of course has been moved around anyway. I suspect it will fit fine. The only question might be if there are differences to the way some of the early controls worked vs. the later ones, but I don't think there is...

I'm on board too. One of the glaring weaknesses in the 928 has always been the AC/window/sunroof/radio/clock/fan ctrl/etc.
It should be noted that the center console on the 90 and later cars has a slightly rounded upper right corner near the temp sensor. There will need to be two different consoles, one for pre-90 and one for 90 and later.

I view the USB port on the dash in the same way I view the turbines on a wind farm--so cool and beautiful for the technology and advancement that they represent. I can't imagine that anyone could find them ugly. Plug in a 16gb flash drive and drive the car for a month or longer without hearing the same music twice.
I've had a boner for carputers since Kraft used to post on here...and he had a very beautiful interface but no provisions for the other systems. The carputer, tied to the Sharktuner, tied to a Paul Champagne aesthethic = breakthrough.
