Kibort: originator of the fender mod question
Question for Mark, I am fitting my my 17x10 front rims and am going to need to do the fender mod you described in another post. What did you do to gain the extra clearance? Will just slotting the holes where the fender bolts under the hood and at the back inside the fender well give me the extra room? The fenders are already baseball bat rolled.
The wheels pictured have 2 1/2"outers but I originally ordered 2" and can substitute. I suspect with tires mounted using the 2 1/2's the tires will rub like crazy.
I will be using a 275-40-17 Hoosier R6. What do you think, will it work with the 10"? or the 9 1/2" ?

what is the back spacing of the rim. If we are speaking the same language, and I think we are, i had the 1.5 outers on the 8.5 " inners to make a 10" rim, but it had 7.5 backspacing. (8" on the 9.5" rims)
If so, and it does look similar, but tough to tell, it should be ok, with some fender move-out.
Now, it also depends how comfortable you are pulling the fender out from being flush with the door. If you dont care, you should be fine as I put a 305 with the fender pulled out and lifted at the bottom near the runner, as it bowed out the fender at the tire by doing that. (lift the fender up, and then re attach it on top of the bottom screw fastener, not on the bottom of the bottom fastener as it comes normally.)
give me a back spacing number and it will be clear. but from the looks of it, the fender is rolled nicely and there is some clearance.

Mark, it will work with the 10" rim now that the fender is out. In the pic you can see at full bump there is still 3/4 clearance to the lip. The section width of the tire is 11" which still will give me 1/2". Gotta love it, no buck mod, can be put back to stock and easy to do. Excellent idea, thanks. If you are ever racing in the Pacific NW I would like to see your car. May 1 I am planning on being at Pacific Raceways in Kent for a ICSCC race. Be first time on Hoosiers and the new wheels.

those rims look great. Yep, looking at my stuff, the tire is only about 5mm wider than the rim, with a 275, so that should work just fine. actually, with the 305s, it wasnt the basic clearance, it was the inside, and up fender clearnace. I got the paint burned from the tire bottoming out on the fender, but that was with a 305, that is 1" taller than the 275, so again, you should be fine. I fixed that by moving the fender out ever so slightly some more.
Lets see some more pics of the car! paint skeme looks awesome!

Thanks , the paint is the original that was on the car when I bought it as a non runner for 1200 bucks. I added the stripes to jazz it up a bit. When I built it I painted everything but the body 04 GM sunfire yellow cause I wanted a bright colour under the hood and stuff. Now I just put stickers over the dents and rubs. Would be nice to get a paint sponsor but it's good enough for a racecar.
