Default Need help ID'ing a wire in the CE board

Hi. In the pic below, there's a yellow wire that's spliced into a Red wire with a white stripe in the CE board (on the "G" connector... 2nd wire down on the right side). Can someone with a schematic please tell me what this red/white wire is for?
I've followed the yellow wire and it goes to the hot 12v lead of the aftermarket radio ALONG with another yellow wire that runs directly to the battery +. So in essence, this yellow wire in the pic is directly connected to the battery +. And that doesn't make any sense to me. But I wanted to check with you guys first before I go ahead and snip it off.
Gotta love the work of POs!

If I am reading the wiring diagrams correctly (''88s4, right?), that wire is terminal G24 on the CE panel, 2.5mm red/white wire which carries power to the sunroof switch-- through fuse 14 from the power-window relay.

Makes perfect sense for a PO radio wiring job.

You can download the manuals for free here

http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

The few head units that I have seen have one always hot yellow wire and one wire hot with the key on accessory.

Thanks guys. That actually makes a lot of sense. When I pulled the sunroof fuse, the radio stopped working. I bet the other yellow wire, the one that goes directly to the battery, has a break in it. So the PO said, well, I'll just connect it to this wire over here...it's Red, so it must be OK. I think I'll be cutting that yellow wire and re-running a new hot lead to the battery.
Good thing I like puzzles, because the POs of this car are sure giving me a lot of them to solve!

Would be a lot easier to pick up battery power in the Central Electric Panel. The proper radio connection is a red wire on E24, powered from Fuse #22.

The connections on the plugs are:

15 25
14 24
13 23
12 22
11 21

The Blaupunkt Lexington CM 84 installed by a PO had three wires associated with head power that went into and came out of a black box.

Yellow wire direct to battery (Always Hot).
Red wire to ignition (Hot with key on).
Black to ground.

The new head unit that I am installing has the same three power wires.

My first question is which wire goes to E24 and where does the other wire go (Yellow and Red) ?

My second question is if there is no wire in E24 how do you install one ?

My last question is how do you remove the ‘E' connector ? Do you lift the clip and yank ?

Wally thanks for showing how the numbering works.

PS where does the head "illumination" wire go ?

You probably already have the wires you need.

Look in the area behind the head unit - there are usually wires there. Look for a choke (it will look like a little transformer). Use a test light or a multimeter to find one wire (usually red or black) that is hot all the time, and another wire that is hot only when the ignition switch is on.

The illumination wire (if you have one - many newer head units do not have an illumination wire) should hook to a black/blue wire, such as the one that goes to the ashtray light.

An extra wire from the head unit (often blue or yellow) may well be the amp trigger or the power antenna trigger.

Ground wires on the 928 are brown. Black wires are often power.

Let us know if you still need help.

This is a suitable alternate connection point but it is not how a stock radio connects. This fuse is used for the Booster (meaning amplifier). The radio doesn't have a fuse in the supply line - usually there is a fuse on the back of the radio - however this can't protect the radio wiring (only the radio itself).

The choke (suppressor/inductor) will be in series with the accessory switched supply from the ignition switch (unfused). Usually you will need the red wire to feed the radio switched supply. Note that many radios with built in power amps now need to have a noise suppressor on the permanent supply - either instead or in addition to one on the switched supply.
