Very nicely done! Doesn't just look like a gaping hole in the hood. Thanks for sharing. Ed

Nicely done. Will you be getting before-and after engine temp numbers so we can see how it affected engine temps?
I will make up a blockoff for the vent and plan to take the car out in back to back track sessions and see what the coolant temp, intercooler temp and underhood temps do.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and support.

I dont predict that the temp of the engine bay will change much, as before the opening, the air has a nice path under the car, so the there is not much difference there. However in traffic, those temps would be lower I would imagine.
at the track, even with or without the hood vent, the engine runners are cool too the touch for a few mins in the hot pits after a few laps. The main purpose of the vent, is to take that air coming out of the radiator, and vent it to the top of the car rather than under it for downforce.

Mark,

Have you decided yet what you are going to do? Here is a link to what I used. It took some work, but I could walk you through it in 1/3 the time it took me, since I had to fabricate the mounting and decide how to modify it to work.

I thought I did, and then I saw what you had done. So, Im all masked off for the blade and my old design, but its on hold until I investigate. I kind of wanted someting more wide and flush, but this does look good the way you did it.

Hmmmm. maybe

I was at the local Pet Exposition this weekend and noticed the police K-9 Crown Vics.....they had louvers punched out all over the hoods. They leave the cruisers running with the dog inside much of the time and obviously needed to help vent some of the heat. The photo is my "widebody" .....

Nice looking job! Awesome beast! I love TS Superchargers. Now I see why you are looking into a vent. Do you get a problem with heat soak on the track when you are running her hard? The IC must work well!

Low end TQ must be sweet. I bet the hp curve is climbing all the way to redline!

I love seeing you blow by all of those fast cars in your video. They are just not fast enough for a supercharged 928!

Hi Jim....Hope all is well. There is A LOT going on in the photo, from the widebody to the lexan side glass and aero mirror. I hope you will share more of the project.

Thanks Stephen,
The car is super on track. No heat problems but I am just trying to take care of as many little details as possible. They all eventually add up into something better.

The car makes 325 pound feet of torque at just 2500 RPM. It does pull hard all the way to redline. In addition I am running a 2.75 LSD so the car is quite fun mid corner off. If you notice I am very progressive "rolling into" the throttle.

Nice work...but is is possible to shroud the upper pulley assembly a bit to keep any rain from hitting the belt /pulley. Id imagine that wouldnt be good for belt traction?

Hi Tony,

At any moderate speed the rain will not enter the opening.

I do plan to make a block off and have handy.

When it rains at the track 90% of the time this car goes into the trailer and doesn't come back out. It's very difficult to modulate the torque with 315s on the rear in the wet. If a student wants to learn the rain line, I make them drive their car.

But, your point is well taken and I will have a block off that will slip into the underside of the vent.

Regards,

Ken

Try 420rwt and 315 slick, race rubber in the wet! Kind of fun doing burn outs in 3rd gear at 100mph down the straights of Laguna.
