Cool

This thread has been quiet for almost a year! Time to freshen it with a new install. And I've got some fitment questions, which I'll ask in the next post in this thread.

Might this be the first EIS powder coated to match the intake, cam covers, etc.?

Question

OK... one thing that concerns me a bit is that the plumbing sits higher than I'd expect. I can close my hood, but it's damn close and I know that the clamps on the sleeves at the "Y" at the back contact the hood.

I had a hard time fitting the "Y" piece to the MAF; it's completely wedged in there; it's a little farther back and higher than I'd expect. Perhaps my MAF sits higher and more rearward than normal. Maybe the elbow under the MAF that connects it to the throttle body isn't perfectly well fit, but it the MAF side of the elbow looked tight to me (the throttle body side is harder to see and I'm not totally sure about it). I've also got fairly new (maybe 5 year old) Porsche motor mounts, so perhaps my engine is sitting at maximum height, too.

So... the clamps for the sleeves at the back that connect the "Y" to the elbows actually contact the hood at the sharp metal ridge on the hood immediately adjacent to the hood liner. I'd prefer that there was just a little clearance there, but don't see any way to get any, unless I figure out some way to lower and/or move forward the MAF.

Secondly, the air filter boxes are big enough that I'm concerned they might float outward enough that the hood lifts (gas springs) will contact them. Damn close. The air filter boxes sit rather high because (at least in my car), there's a breather hose from the left side cam cover to the right side cam cover that's right under them. Probably nothing can be done about that. I think I'll add some kind of rubber bumper to the side of the "hood open" switch top keep the right side air filter box from migrating too far right.

Anyone else who has installed the EIS experience similar problems?

Any advice from anyone?

It does look like multiple clearances are damn close but that is a damn nice picture and it looks damn good.

Hi Ed,
Absolutly awesome and what a a great color combination. Please do NOT come to OCIC 8>)

Everything is tight but can be positioned for clearance. Mine has been fitted for well over a year with no issues.

I will let others chime in with comments as I am biased.

The only thing that rubs on mine is the front bellows, and only barely. This could be because I do not have the stock fan, tho.

That looks GORGEOUS PC'ed to match like that...

I'd love to take my '95 and get a nice PC job on the intake and an EIS by Ben at the same time and then get Sean to do some hotter cams and a sharktune and exhaust on that car... at some point that will ALL happen! It will be a wonderful day too! Oh and Greg's oiling issue solution comes to mind as well!!!!

Thanks. Yeah... about that: when juggling parts involving your original parts sent in for rebuilding and temporary loaners, etc., it helps to label them to keep track of whose stuff is whose.

Jeez, if I could do one with all zinc dichromate-plated Norma band clamps, black silicone hose sections, and PC'ed to match the intake, that would be fun. Wonder how many people could be fooled into believing it was stock?

Absolutely everyone who does not know what a stock 928 engine should look like, so pretty much anyone who is NOT on RL, 928OC or a couple of other 928 enthusiast sites! Heck, none of those people would think twice about Ed's! They would totally think that was stock too! It is freakin' gorgeous!

That's really nice setup, looks like a new car

Maybe you have new Volvo motor mounts, which will lift engine slightly more up than the "old style" rubber ones...

I have volvo mounts and my EIS sits like that. My hood is still off, but looks like it won't fit as the tubes are higher than the wing edges. Thinking of cutting down Y, or making up something, just another job to do :-)))
