Yes, inquiring minds want to know...... and did you notice any oil pressure drops or warning lights before you stopped driving it (and saw the oil and it wouldn't turn over).
My guess is that if it was going to seize it would have done it on the initial shut down, when I said a "Ray of hope" I was talking about it restarting to get it into the garage.

I am not sure how far he is from Sean, but he does have qualified help in the state.

225 miles. I'm just happy I made the trip and didn't break down half way in Waco!

If they have lots of life left in them ie not very worn I would try boiling them in water for an hour or so, periodically spooning off the oil that floats to the surface - that will normally get rid of most of the oil.

Put a rear main in it, clutch and maybe a starter and see what you have.

You may have got lucky.

.
S4s with the beginnings of complete TBF will "lockup" and not turn over when heat soaked, then after they cool down you can start and drive them again, and again, and again..unless you let them get too hot. Don't ask me how I know, been driving one like that occasionally for 6 months or more

As I said, I am hoping just the starter was oil fouled, but with 4 quarts low ...???

Just to make it clear, as if you're a newbie it may not be apparent.

Do not start the car, or try to start the car, until you've at least inspected the rear main seal. Losing almost half your oil is very significant, and you really don't want to spin a bearing.

Luckily you have an manual car - dropping the clutch pack and removing the flywheel are relatively easy jobs, which gives you access to the rear main seal to examine and replace it.

Once you're in that far, replacement is the way to go as a seal is cheap - I recommend using the flywheel and a couple of bolts to get the seal started (very hard to get it in flat otherwise), then some plastic plumbing pipe to tap it in further once started.

Yea, four quarts low is a bunch.

I was thinking it being seized due to loss of oil pressure, like mains or rods.

On the TBF, I think it is a bigger issue than most think, as in more common, sucks that you have one with that issue.

4 qts is a lot but fortunately the car holds about 9 plus what is in the oil filter itself and you would have had various (or should have had) various warning lights it is was not getting oil pressure due to low oil.

See if Mark Robinson can help...he has pulled his share of clutches and replaced plenty of rear main seals, but you do need to find out why it is leaking. I noticed after you left that it has left a small puddle on my driveway...

Hang in buddy! You will get it squared away! Sean might have to make a trip down here to make it right or we might have to take it over to Matt or get Robinson to bring some stuff over... You didn't buy this as a running car to begin with so that things could be evaluated before money changed hands...so far (if this oil leak turns out to NOT be a big deal) you are still in a good place...
