Tires... WTH?

Tires... WTH?
Taking my 928 out of the barn soon, I know she will need new shoes. They were pretty bad last year.
I've decided to buy new rims in the same time (And change my front wheels bearing which become to move a bit too much)
So, I'm going for 18" Sports Edition Cup 4 (Some people around here got some, they look great and aren't so expensive)
Front : 18" x 8" offset : 54
Rear : 18" x 10" offset : 58
From what I understand, they should work just fine.
However, I'm completely lost when come to tires. I know what each number means in 235/35R18..
But it's not enough... I just have no idea what I'm suppose to look for!
I've seen people here go for 235 for a 18"x8"...
For the rear, it should be... 285?
And what ratio should I look for?
Is only 235 correct or 225 and 245 can work too?
REALLY no idea. Is it just a matter of taste?
(BTW, yeah, it's my first time buying tires)

"fits nicely with no spacer on the rear with 265/35/18 to 285/30/18 tire"... Sounds more like personal taste. :/
That page sounds more useful for rims size and offset.

the 235,245,275 is the width of the widest part of the side wall when mounted on a rim of a certain width which is decided on independently by each tire maker which means there is little comparison from one maker to another and has no direct relationship to how wide the tread width is. If you look on Tireracks website under specifications it shows the rim width which was used for a specific tire as well as the "recommended" minimum maximum rim width for a given tire. Note that mounting wide tires on a narrow rim while it may be SAFE results in much poorer handling in everything but drag race acceleration. Many like the wide tire look even though wider tires tend to be taller and effectively change the final drive ratio..... The popular agressive tread patterns which makes the tires mud and snow rated actually reduces dry traction since all the gaps between the tread have ZERO traction. But they sell well And that is the name of the game.
