Just b/c it's easier, I think I would try the relay anyway even tho, the basic steps given above don't indicate the relay. The horn relay (X) is the same, if the horn works, you could switch them to verify. I'm no expert on my own system, let alone the '81, but I would then work my way back from the fan; Jump 12V to the fan.

I finally got this into the shop today to have somebody with more experience look at it. He determined that the problem is with the blower motor. The price he quoted me on the motor was $619, plus $135 for labor. Anybody know what the part number is for the motor? I'm curious to see how much it is on 928Intl, and how much it might cost used.

Thanks

928 574 033 05. That price looks to me like new retail. The labor is not that bad either. You will save a LOT if you buy a used blower motor.

Nice, $200 sounds a lot better than $620. I checked out the workshop manuals and found the instructions for removing and replacing the blower, 87-16 through 87-17. It seems pretty straightforward to me, but if I decided to tackle this job myself does anybody have any tips?

Thanks

I finally got it in to the mechanic. As it turns out, the motor itself was fine and didn't need to be replaced; just some wiring needed to be repaired. So I saved a lot of cheddar there. Now the blower works fine, but when the AC is on it blows warm air (after I start driving it around). The heater still works fine (not that I need it right now). It seems like I could be low on refrigerant, and I'm hoping that's all it is; but does anybody else have any ideas if that's not what it is?

Thanks

Heater valve or status of vacuum line to it.

Do you hear the compressor engaging when you press the AC button? If not follow Dwayne’s HVAC procedure.

Bad heater valve - do a search, very common.

Also, when was the vacuum check valve off the brake booster last replaced?

Those go bad or are sometimes installed backwards.

Turns out I just needed refrigerant. Fortunately the PO already did the conversion to R134, although there is a slow leak that I'll have to get fixed soon.

Thanks guys.
