Do you get nods from other Porsche owners?

Andrew- thats pretty funny! I think Greg needs to re-install that avatar he had yesterday.....
I live here on the central coast, and I noticed that when the Historics and Concours people are here, most of the older 911's and even some 356's will wave or flash lights at me. No Cayennes, no Panameras, few 996/7, and few Boxters, and, oddly, few 928s or 944s...
Don't know what that means, per se, but, in 14 years, nobody has asked for my autograph....if I had Greg's *****, I'm sure I'd get more notice! haha!

I usually get a wave or headlight flash from most other Porsches (even Boxsters and newer 996/997 guys). The only ones that don't seem to be either women in Boxsters (sorry that sounds sexist). I'm assuming they are just buying a fun convertible that has 2X the cargo space of an S2000 and not really Porsche drivers. May not even know a 928 was even a Porsche.

I wave at all of them... seems like the number waving back is getting lower and lower all the time. Maybe just a factor of the increased number of P-car sales is all... I like the idea of attributing their NON-WAVE as still learning to be a P-car owner! NICE!

There were times when I drove the 928 where other Porsche drivers would flash there light's it took me a little while to figure out they were saying hi. I don't think most folks know what it is. I rarely see them on the road, and it is usually crusing the freeway. Oddly enough I get more notice in the 912E?, which most folks think it's a 911.....

In and around the KC area most of the 996/997 guys will wave. When I broke down right after I got my car last spring, a guy in a 997 stopped and offered to help. It's the Boxster and Cayman guys that don't seem as friendly. As for the Pepper crowd, I get more looks from them when I'm driving the V8 T-reg, just looks nothing more.

I don't live in a Porsche-rich environment. I always flash lights and wave (weather permitting) to every Porsche I see. If I'm acknowledged, great; if not, no big deal. My experience with Boxster and Cayenne owners is that they are usually oblivious.
I was fueling the 928 GT this Saturday and got a wave from a guy in a 996 who drove by.
I drove the GT3 yesterday and on a 2-lane road flashed an oncoming 997 Turbo and just got a curious look in return. Save the flash.

Overall people just aren't as darned friendly as they used to be.
You can tell an enthusiast from an owner from the wave. I'll even give a wave to anything cool out there, from that calpped out '71 Mgb to a new R8.

^^^^^^^I hung out the passenger window of the Burb one day (wife driving) to give a double thumbs-up, double hood point, double thumbs up to a pristine Volvo 1800 we passed one day. Guy and his woman passenger were laughing and beaming so much I thought they were gonna crash. (She was hot, BTW).
I don't mess with the Porsche folks. They're complicated.

People in new cars almost never give a glance. A few do.
Most waves I get are from 924 and 944/951/968 owners. One which I will remember was in Dusseldorf, a fashion city, where a chique, heavily make upped lady of about 65, driving an nice 911 carrera, got along side, honked, and gave us the thumbs up.
Oh yeah, and the one guy in a in some sort of uniform who kept waving when I drove somewhat fast. Wonder what he wanted

Sat at the light yesterday next to a Cayman, the driver in the car looked right at me. He didn't seem to even notice the car. After I pulled away from the light and got a little way ahead of him, he sped up next to me to stare at the car. I just figured he didn't recognize it as a Porsche until he read it on the back bumper cover.

There's a guy at my work with a new Boxter. Very friendly and always checking up on "the old 928". He freaks that I drive it everyday back and forth to work. He's owned his about 2 years and it's still squeaky clean as it came off the floor. He pulls the wheels when he washes it and cleans out the inner fenders. It's been wet 3 times....
His is not a fine automobile, it's a monument....

Daniel,
I like your friend! NICE! I thought I was bad about car cleaning...I got NOTHING on that guy! LOVE IT! That said, if I were not in a wheelchair, I would probably do what he does!
On topic, I get a "COOL CAR" or an actual BOW (Got a two handed double bow the other day) from drivers and watchers EVERY DAY that I drive a GTS and almost every time I am in ANY 928! Not so much from the new Porsche owner crowd though...

I had a guy in my neighborhood walking by ask me a few questions about it. Hell I've never even drove the car and have had people notice it broke down in the garage and drove by giving me the thumbs up. I can't wait to actually drive it to see what kind of responses I get.
