Do you get nods from other Porsche owners?

Maybe it's just me but are other (newer) Porsche owners even aware of what a 928 is? I see dozens of 911's and Boxsters guys and never even get a look. I get more looks and questions from the avg joe on the street.
Are these guys not aware of what other Porsches are out there or do they not care? I eyeball every Porsche I see but I seem invisible to them!

Just last night a newer 997 stopped way back at a stop light so he could wave and say hi. Never saw the guy before. He saw me waiting to pull out of a parking lot.

When I used to drive my 356B 1600 Super and my 912 in the 60s, we always got the nod or a wave from other Porsche owners.
Today, I believe that there are 2 reasons for no nods or waves of recognition.
1, the 928 initially was one of those water cooled jobs and
2, maybe the drivers today are probably brokers etc., who believe they are a cut above the average mortal, so why give a recognition signal that we also belong to a unique club of Porsche owners.

I don't think it matters if what car they drive. "CAR" people get it and give me a nod or a
. Just the other day, I had a guy pull up to me in a GM POS and give me a thumb up. That made me feel good.
But why do we care? Are we still looking for validation? Isn't owning a 928 enough or do we really need other Porsche owners to tell us how good of a car we have? I used to fall into this trap. I used to get annoyed when other Porsche owners didn't acknowledge me, but now, I could give a crap.
I've come to the realization that I have a really cool car (actually two). It provides me with a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction. That's all I need to know. How others view me is irrelevant.
But if someone gives me a thumbs up, I usually return the favor.

Newer Porsches sell to a largely non-enthusiast market (that has been basis of Porsche's huge expansion in sales volume). They are unlikely to recognise a 928 let alone wave at you! Of course there are exceptions to this in that well-heeled enthusiasts may buy new Porsches (I bet Jerry Seinfeld would wave at you).
Drivers of older Porsches (by definition 924/944/968 and air-cooled 911s) are by and large very likely to be car and Porsche enthusiasts and to wave at you as a fellow fan.

Granted I have not had my 928 long, I get many more waves in my Cayenne than I do in the 928. Cayenne people are generally soccer moms or, as stated above, brokers. Cayenne people do not wave and most have no clue why their key is on the left. That being said, I always acknowledge 944, 24, 12, 11 etc.

The Corvette crowd waves at each other, it is habit so I do it when I see a Corvette, I try to wave at the Porsche folks, or flash my lights.
If they do not wave back, I am not out much.

My $0.02 worth..
I wave at all the P-car people.
If they wave or thumb-up - cool.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
If not; I figure they are still learning to be an owner!
Also, +1 on what Andrew said.
Cheers,

There are lots of P-cars in my area. Mostly Boxsters and SUVs and I'm guessing not really as much into the history of the car as they are into driving a car they like. If I waved at all of them I'd be waving all the time.
I don't think any of them even know what a 928 is either.
I do often get thumbs up or nods from other car guys as Andrew said and I always return the favor.
The guys at the local gas station love my car and have told me so more than once. I actually washed it before I left on a trip the other day knowing I was going to be getting gas on the way out.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
For me it's not about the 'P-car fraternity' it's about the car and the car people. Lots of people own Porsches. Car guys own all kinds of cars and respect other's cars and passion.

It seems to me that alot of 928 owners have an inferiority complex. Remember, your driving a 20+ year old car. That doesn't automatically make you cool or noteworthy to most people. Car guys will appreciate it but thats about it unless your's is an outstandingly clean specimen. If you want people to wave and give you the thumbs up, you need to go buy a Lambo or a Smart car.

Frankly many people buy ( but more lease) a new Porsche because it is EXPENSIVE and EXCLUSIVE. Little wonder that they do not see a $3,000 - $15,000 old 928 as being part of their peer group....... As mentioned a lot depends on where you live when it comes to being an exotic car. Here next to Newport Beach California there are so many Porsche Cars that you would be constantly waving and smiling....maybe not such a bad idea !
Doubtful they would see the old faded very brown 1980....
