Thanks guys....

This was our 3rd year at Pikes Peak, and our 2nd podium finish. We were also the fastest 2WD car in the Open.

The Open Division is quite a tough run group to be in - its "Open"! The two cars that beat me were tube-framed purpose-built race cars with reproduction-looking lightweight race panels. Additionally, with half of the race course being gravel or dirt, AWD is a distinct advantage.

So you can see we were putting our '78 928 and our engineering to test against a very very wide spectrum of cars and trucks all in one race group.

Thats why I am so proud we were the fastest 2WD car.

PS: look at the times of the "Vintage" class where I could have also ran. We would have won 1st place in Vintage! But I like to run with the Big Boys in the Open, so we stayed there.

How many of you bought the book Carl wrote on the 1st Pikes Peak effort?

I did and it was a great story, great read.
Book sales of "Peak 928", the adventure of our 2007 Pikes Peak rookie year, have been slowly climbing....

The book is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc... but I sell it for less at my website here:

I bought an autographed copy of Peak 928 from Carl at Sharktoberfest a while back - it is an excellent read and a nice example of grassroots motorsport success stories, not to mention all the 928 **** in it. I read it cover to cover in the first sitting. A copy belongs on the shelf of any 928 enthusiast.

Thanks Rob. Happy to be refered to as a "grassroots" race team. We are. The driver has grease under his nails.

Grassroots is what the 928 is all about.....Carl, Mark's, Joe F, John V, myself (lemons) and the ORR guys all have proven that on many different events..... How many other platforms can claim success in SO many different events..... A car that has won or placed high in POC, PCA, SCCA, NASA, Pikes, ORR, Bonneville & LEMONS.....

Thats about as wide an automotive competition spectrum as you can get!

Brian,

That is an excellent observation! The 928 is indeed a full on grass roots phenomenon!

Umm, 911s?

Well, probably excluding the LEMONS racing...

Cheers,

Got my copy of Excellence. Great article. It is good to see positive references to the 928 in a Porsche oriented mag.

Great job to Carl and crew for representing so well.

I'm glad there are talented racers that have chosen to run the 928. If I tried it would just justify to others that the 928 is fat and lazy.
