No 928 - Will keep my Vette

Greg,
The SCCA class that the Vette runs in (at least for SOLO I stuff) is ONLY Vette's, so yea, a Vette ALWAYS wins that class. In fact it is almost always the NEWEST Vette that wins the stock class because the difference is literally inches when it is all said and done so even 20HP can make a difference. My neighbor and his wife are like 5 and 7 time national champions with the SCCA and they raced a C5 vette for several years.
That burnout gone bad was SOOO FUNNY! You would think one of the IDIOTS standing around would say, STOP!!! Bunch of dumb F@#*$!
Sweet...you are right on the cost side of things. I said something about wanting an NSX some day because they are so reliable and inexpensive being Honda's at heart and all... An owner piped up and set me straight. He was like, "they are reliable, but when you have to fix something or even get new tires or brakes...break out the check book because they are NOT CHEAP!!!"

Greg, I dare you to bring that Vette to SITM. And then give me a ride. I double dog dare you. Triple puppy on peanut butter dare you.
:P
If you don't, there will be a new thread titled in your name.

Ok Ok - I get the picture...This was never about a Vette being a better car than a 928...I like them better than Corvettes! ..They are rare and distinctive..You have to admit that the frequency, price and labor of Porsche parts/service is higher than GM. I know - there is always the 928 owner that says "just oil changes here" - but I have read the repair threads in this forum and all I can say is Wow. The timing belt/water pump ordeal is just one of them. I know that I'll never convince you guys. You are very fortunate to own them

Be careful, damn sure would not be the first time I have brought a Corvette to a Porsche function or a Porsche to a Corvette one, maybe I like that kind of negitive attention and the good lord and the dogs KNOW I like peanut butter.

I have had three Vettes. A 81, 86 and 91. They were a lot of fun and great bang for the buck. The quality is just not up to Porsche specs. Even brand new ones are plasticy. Sure they are fast, handle great but the BIG difference is pedigree, quality of fit and finish and materials and EXCLUSIVITY. No one turns their head for a standard vette. Sure a old split window, but they drive like crap.
I always liked the 928 for it's design, it's GT'ness, it's V8, it's pedigree and most importantly there are not 50k of 'em made a year. Maybe that many in 17 years at best. If you want cheap fun and no flair or panache get a vette. Don't fool yourself and think they are Honda's. They are on par with 928's in maint. So is any sports car.

But I have to agree, a 63 or any mid year is scary at speed, or in a corner.
These cars started out as rare cars, then they take another rare car and kind of make a really rare car.
It ends up taking three cars to make one.
you can even hook up a standard scanner to these cars.
The workmanship on these is outstanding.
I do not miss much when it comes to mods, and these are really good IMHO.
The young man that does these conversions is really good.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit... That thing is FUGLY! To many round things on the *** end of it and to many scoops and such...just looks like a bunch of ugly bits tacked on to a not to pretty car to begin with...ugh!

I think I have other pics of some 63 LT5 conversions that are a bit more bland.

They look great, but the really are not very good cars IMHO.
I got so much crap about my old Chevelle that was my DD for almost 15 years, the, "You never drive it, man if I had a car like that", or the always fun one, "I used to have one JUST like that".
Shameless pics.
This young girl used to work for me as a mechanic, she was actually a good wrench, but she took some CD's out of a customers car so she no longer works for me.
A dirty engine means it has not been out in the last 5,000 miles.

Love the LT5 in the '66 (?) but why in the world would anyone use a C4 interior on a mid year?
The '62 327-340 I took care of for a couple of years was a steaming pile of '49 Chevy sedan with a gorgeous body and a big honking solid lifter lump under the hood. The shfter rattled at anything over 45 mph and 60 felt like 120. A lot of fun but seriously archaic. And the brakes? what brakes?
Pretty, tho:

60 felt like 120, yep, no disagreement there and 120 not only felt like you were about to die, you were in fact close to that, man they get light at speed.
I have to disagree about the brakes on the early cars, the always seem to work on either the left side or the right and some times they work on the left when you put the brakes on, then on the right when you release them.
That was kidding of course, all of the early cars were like that and at the time, it was good.

I owned a Vette once about 40 years ago. Back then it was a hell of a machine. And my wife hated it. After my last tour in Vietnam I started looking for a replacement. What I found is in the picture to the left. I've had some great cars in my life, but nothing has ever come close to the Pantera. My 928 is 13 years newer, and much more refined. IMHO, the Pantera is the most badass car ever built. Mine is far from stock, and can suck the doors off a Vette. Vettes are a dime a dozen, 928's and Pantera's are rare.
