Default Radiator Vendor Suggestion

I am upgrading my radiator in my 928. 95% of the time I drive the car it is on trips to Las Vegas, or Laughlin Nevada, so I was told by a highly recommended technician to upgrade the radiator.

I am scheduled to install the radiator provided by 928 International locally. However, that unit seems pretty expensive.

Are there any less expensive radiators that are just as good, or even better?
Any suggestions?

Here is a link to the 928 international radiator:

The 928 International Aluminium Radiator is the best value and the best radiator available.

It may be the best aftermarket radiator, but the highest quality is a new Behr unit from Porsche. The aftermarket may be your best choice because of cost.

If you car is overheating, it could be for a reason(s) other than the radiator.

Barry O, the Behr certainly is the most expensive. You got that part right. And ANY NEW radiator is likely much better than one that is twenty years old.

About once a month a new aluminum radiator for the late 928 shows up on Ebay for around $900. I have one and it is of excellent quality. I don't see one on there right now, but it may be worth keeping a watch out for one.

There used to be a racing outfit in Michigan (Howe Racing) that would make an aluminum radiator with the 2 coolers (or any configuration) that was a drop in replacement... for about $450.

That was until Carl contracted with them as a 'sole national vendor'... now it's around $850.

I have a guy (NASCAR) that will duplicate the factory specs in all aluminum for me.

Price? My secret -so nobody establishes a national contract before I get mine made.

If it turns out well quality-wise... I will pass the info on to DR.

2 coolers, S4 size - note that early rads are slightly lower (10mm in core).

I was perusing E-Bay over the weekend and saw the one that you are referring to.The cost is just under $900. Very close to the price of the 928Intl. Aluminum radiator.

I was quoted $US 770 for a brand-new Behr radiator for my 89 S4 from a local Behr wholesaler (the quote was actually $AU 850). I just asked for a price on it by Behr part number, which I got from the Behr-Hella website's online catalogue - didn't mention it was for a porsche etc.

You can find the Behr electronic catalogue here:

http://www.behrhellaservice.com/behr...om-en/264.html

My quote was for one of these with a single engine oil cooler only: (my 89 is manual)

Behr part no. 8MK 376 710-731
Trade Numbers: 2108243, 2126910003

Personally, I take the view that if the originals are good for 20 years, then its not a bad replacement option

The question was "are there any cheaper and better radiators than the 928 Int one"
The answer is still NO!

I sell the Behr for $875 (5 speed) and $1050 (Auto). Do not sell many with Mark's available.

I just realised - I see a reason for owning a manual 928 - the radiator is cheaper - it's all becoming clear now 8>)
