Dan and Gary et al,

I like the idea of some sort of repository for submissions to be uploaded or dumped to where I simply have to copy completed/formatted pages to the website. That would save a TON of time! I am however reluctant to give admin rights site wide.

If we could figure out a way to restrict rights to a repository area along with a more professional updated look both would be welcome changes by me.

While my desire will always be to keep this site "free" and available to all there are limits. Adding ROW cars (while I would LOVE to do it) could potentially double or even triple the size of the site and the cost? I realize there could somehow be limits to the size of pics which would help. Right now, I get some 3 and 4 meg picture files........

Additionally, the "support the 928 Registry" link has been in several conspicuous places on the website since 2007 and until this thread only 4 people have ever been compelled to contribute. I'm really okay with that. Please don't get me wrong, I've said it b/f and I'll say it again - I am doing this with eyes wide open and I am not complaining about having to foot the bill.

It should also be noted; I can see on my admin site which pages visitors view on the site and plenty of people have looked at the support pages but opted not to do anything. Being a realist that tells me that folks either do not value the site enough to contribute or just take for granted it will be there whether or not they contribute (they're right -it will be.....). Again, I'm okay with that but remember guys there are limits.

The other issue to consider is that the more gizmos and flash the site has, the more potential for tech issues that I could probably not solve on my own which creates another potential cost to diagnose and/or fix.......

I've volunteered before (and may regret doing so again ) but the registry could be built so that data is entered into a form and all the administrator has to do is approve it. It's called a content management system and it's how modern web sites are generally done these days. You could even have a history of past data.

I think data entry should be build in a way that it would ask so specific questions that incoming data would be instantly ready for registry pages. This would basically require setup where site code has all possible 928 variations build in it and only allow selection from those including VIN check digit checkup for US models. From coding point of view something like this is fairly simple to do and it would ensure data quality. Quality is utmost importance if it is to be of any real use. Only way to make sure data is ok is to have so strict insertion method that it simply do not allow significant errors to get through. If its completely done by humans every time it is very time consuming. Some overall ok button needs to be there before data gets into site but it can be mostly readily checked by code.

Pictures can be made very small and still remain ok quality. This takes some admin work but should not be too bad job if its spread over to few dedicated people who have some admin access to registry site.

There is also option of dublicate ROW site which would share same basic layout and be linked with US version on some level but at same time be on totally separate server setup and run where ever, not necessarily even in US. This would require separate admin(s) etc to keep it running and some $$ each month same way as current registry does. But normal registry user would not need to know there are two sites.

My idea on administrative approval has more to do with preventing bogus/malicious/vandalous activity than anything else. Someone claiming to own a car they don't for purposes of vehicle fraud, etc. Yes, all the vin and option code info could be validated automated. If someone else wants to do this I am happy, I am not lobbying for me to do it, but this thing really should be databased.
