Nice Stan, those really are fantastic shots! Love those!

Rob, just be happy if you don't end up having the mod make smart alecky comments about getting a life and whatever other supposed sage advice he has to give.

I thought after my thread this wouldn't be an issue anymore.... apparently we never learn....newbee's.... they probably didn't read the FAQ (I cant say ive ever read that whole entire thing though either)

Mrmerlin - Do you know about http://www.stallion51.com/? They will rent time in a dual control Mustang. The program included instruction given in pre and post flight briefings and a video recording with cockpit and external views.

I had a memorable and exciting flight, the real pilot took off and landed, but it was my plane the rest of the time. It was great. I had not done aerobatic maneuvers or flown with a stick before. The instructor had briefed me on the maneuvers and talked me through them in flight; the plane did the rest. Absolutely awesome performance: instant response to control inputs; effortless acceleration. Kind of like an airborne 928! (note relevant Porsche 928 content of posting...)

It made flying my Piper Cherokee seem a depressingly slow and sluggish experience afterward, at least for awhile. I have flown a friend's Harmon Rocket since then, which was pretty impressive, but it was no P51... I would certainly like to fly one again.

I have a stong opinion on this topic:

NOBODY SHOULD CLOSE TECHNICAL THREADS JUST BECAUSE THEY GOT THEIR ORIGINAL QUESTION ANSWERED...

That is akin to saying "screw the rest of you I'm only in it for me" - any value of this thread for other rennlist users is basically just destroyed.

If I am aware someone behaves this way I simply will not respond to their threads - and I think others should follow suit. If you want to diminish the value of my responses by ensuring nobody can later follow up, elaborate or ask clarifying questions - then you don't deserve my help...

On the other hand threads should be closed by moderators or the original posters when they have completely gone off track, totally swapped topics or become tiresomely testy or inflamatory.

Obviously this thread should now be closed for several of those reasons...

Thanks for showing up Alan,
you have been missed, I agree with your post, the potential for more information to be shared is lost when threads are closed

When you guys talk of "closed threads" are you talking about a simple blind hole OSP, or the more esoteric aviation metric blind pitch?

There is a warbird museum here, they have got a gorgeous F-4U, a Flying Tigers P-40, a P-51, and a blacked-out P-38. The P-38 is a magnificent animal in the flesh- photos just don't do it justice.

Porsche responded by mounting standard single hi/low sealed beam 7 inch lights and added the infamous chrome trim ring made of plastic to fill the gap to the painted cover. Then in 1987 they introduced the 8 inch H-5 light which uses a replaceable bulb ,the rules changed in the US' BUT is focused more like the old 1957 Chev style 7 inch seal beam.....In Europe etc. they used the 8 inch H-4 lights which project much further good when pounding along the autoban at night at 120 MPH or 200 KPM the light all interchange. The 7 inch H-4 is an illegal replacement for a 7 inch sealed beam and is sold as a offroad only item but many find their way onto the street recent years headlights have morfed into so many styles that enforcement is none existant. The 7 inch H-4 is very inexpensive allows you to run higher watt brighter bulbs....the 928 specific 8 inch H-4s are expensive !
It just so happens I LIKE my "infamous" chrome trim rings and the 7" Cibie H4 is a definite improvement over the stock 8" lens and reflector. My car with stock-wattage bulbs actually provides better/further/wider light than a factory 8" running uprated bulbs. Now the el-cheapo 7" replacements I'll grant you are crap, but properly done a 7" can be a massive improvement. Oh yeah and they still cost a lot less!

I've been looking at these lights as a replacement for my sealed beams:
OSRAM Sylvania XENARC HID Sealed Beam X6024. These are supposed to be street legal replacements for 7" sealed beam bulbs. Anyone have any experience with these?
