Question How? Clean injectors

1984 need to CLEAN the injectors in the 1984. Since I have now broke it down to JUST That as the rough running problem.
Been out playing with the racecar so the 928 got put on the back burner.
I am GUESSING, Acteone or alky and a power source to get it to pulse.
If there is a post that explains this I did not see it.

I remember seeing a post on this list from someone using an upside down jug with something in it and he then pressurized the jug with an air pump tand then connected it to the removed injectors and blasted the crap out of them. I was going to do that, but instead sent them to Witchhunter. They were back to me in less than a week and I think it was less than $75. They also put on new gaskets and stuff--no kidding, they looked new. They also included the computer printout with their flow rate, etc.

Good luck! / Bruce

As far as I know, you have to send them to a shop that specially does injector cleaning. If I remember correctly, they clean them ultra-sonically . I need to have my injectors sent out also.

This is what you need. Turn-around is quick and the results are excellent.

I sent mine to Cruzin Performance a few years ago. Very happy with the service, report, and results.

George, if you decide to play with them yourself, the best power source to activate them is a 9V radio battery, the little rectangular one. There's some voltage drop in the semiconductor switches used in the EFI brain, and with all of them firing at once there's more in the wiring than you might see just firing one at a time. Bottom line is that a 12V battery straight across one will roast it in a short time.

I have a flush rig that I plan to ty on James' '85 Euro soon. Cannister, air pressure regulator, a couple valves, and the hose and fittings needed to connect to the front of the fuel rail. BG makes a fluch chemical used by the pro/dealers for use in their version of this setup, and the reports from a couple users are good.

I made a similar setup, not quite as elegant, for cleaning CIS nozzle a couple decades ago. Pushed Berrymans B12 through the nozzles to de-gum them and restore the spray pattern. Big risk is that you have a potentially explosive mist of Berrymans, and you may be trying to actuate the electric coil in the injector at the same time. One spark and BOOM! The Bosch recommendation as to place the nozzles in a big jar, poked through the lid, so you can see the spray pattern as they are flushed. Still you really need to do this outside, away from flammable/combustible things like cars and houses. It's pretty impressuve watching the nozzles clean up as you pump stuff through them. From a mini pee stream to a nice fog in a minute or three.

Best thing to do is have them ulrasound cleaned at a diesel repair shop might cost some bucks I think its worth it. the easiest thing to do is boil them in a can of water on the stove, just don't do it with the wife home it stinks like crazy if you don't believe me just search rednecks in the kitchen on youtube thats me boiling 928 CIS parts

I'm a super-cheap DIY SOB, but there's a time to spend a few bucks

http://www.witchhunter.com/

$19/ea plus $10 shipping.

Ya get yours back cleaned with new o-rings and caps. Nice.

Me too. Couldn't find the right pintle caps anywhere on my own.

Here's a set of 85 944 injectors when just back from Witchhunter:

Thanks guys, I have an ultrasonic cleaner and will try the old BREW we did with the injection nozzles for the Hilbourne system.
If that fails I will send the back up set to witchcraft for their magic.
The engine is SMOOTH at 2,000 and UP but below that and when you get on the power you feel a cylinder or two going out to lunch.
Anybody ever put Weber's on these??

Poor injectors get worse as demand increases. While you may get an improvement in idle I'd be looking elsewhere.

Webers.... There have been a few threads on doing this. I can't for the life of me imagine putting them on for anything other than the appearance. Or maybe the sound of eight toilets flushing at the same time, which really is music. To put IDA's on the 928, you'd need a hood bubble to cover them, build the adpters to mount them on the heads, heat isolation so they don't boil, plus linkage, vacuum, air cleaners. I have a small suitcase full of 48IDA parts from chokes and throttles up through primary venturis, with everything in between. I'd rather use a Sharktuner, log data to a laptop and tweak the flow map from the keyboard. It's easier and way cheaper, especially if you are paying for dyno time.

I took th einjection off the modified and put a single 1050 cfm Holley. Easier to keep up with.
The in house vote is to send them off. SO I will send off teh back up set from the parts car and try the sonic on the ones in the car now.

I just bought new Ford injectors for mine since the old ones were clogged. Are there cross referenced parts for 16v cars too?
