Malcolm, very sorry to hear this. I hope you spend plenty of time with him, to make what remains for him as pleasant as possible and to say goodbye. It's terrible to see a loved pet go and I offer my sincerest condolences.

Malcolm...now I have tears in my eyes for all the babies that I have lost! They are SO SPECIAL! I miss all my babies. Here is a shot of the last to leave us...this is Moose...he was my riding buddy and LOVED to be in the car with me! Ask Sterling and Roger about being here with Moose outside going from one seat to the other just to stay in the car...MISS MY BOY!

Malcolm,
I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. We have had our "pound puppy" for four years and she is as much a part of our family as the kids. We are all so attached to her as she is to us,. I dread the day when we no longer have her. I wish you the best of luck and enjoy the time you have left together.

Best wishes to you and your pooch bud. I know it's super tough, we lost two last year, one cancer. You'll know when it's time. Make it easy on him. Ideal if you can find a vet that makes house calls.
Meanwhile, +1 on the bacon, bacon grease on dry, new and different wet food like Alpo. Ice chips, keep him hydrated.
Again... best wishes to you guys.

Sorry to hear this, Malcolm. Not much more to say, as what you've described doesn't sound very promising. As others have said, cherish the time left together and do the right thing when the time draws near.

I hope for the best for you Malcolm. Enjoy your time with him. I left my buddy Charlie sleeping on my side of the bed with his head on my pillow early one morning last October for a business trip. Little did I know that would be the last I'd see him alive as he died in his sleep 3 days later.
I'm glad I didn't have to make any tough decisions, but what I'd give to say goodbye to him again knowing that it would be the last time.
Make it all count.

Sorry Malcolm. These guys get to mean an awful lot to us and it is terrible to have to let one go. The great thing about dogs is they know how much we love 'em, so you can be sure he'll understand when the time comes.

Sorry Malcolm,
I have four dogs and they are all different personalities, all with special qualities that endear them to me. If you're anything like me, you dog already lives in Heaven. Make the best of the time you have left, sit with him and hold him and give him the unconditional love he's given you.
I'm confident dogs I've had before live on in the ones I have now. I can sometimes see them in their faces and in their behavior.
I shed a tear with you.
Best,
Rod

malcolm,
I understand your distress and am sorry to hear. we had two cats, mainly outside with limited inside priveleages.
at 12, Tina develod skin cancer and had several surgeries over two years to remove lumps. a couple weeks after the last surgery she just disappeared. we suspect the neighborhood cyotes got her since she loved to roam the woods behind us.
the other was Ike. we never found out what it was, but he started losing weight and appetite. he was 13 at the time. the vet did some blood tests for the 'normal' diseases that had these symptoms but all negative. the vet felt we could spend a lot just to find out it was something he could not cure. toward the end we were trying anything to get him to eat. we finally had him euthanized when he reached the point where he would just want to go to a corner of the basement and just crouch looking very ill with frequent bouts of diarea and vomiting. at that point we could not let him suffer any longer, even though it probably would only be a couple more days.
we are comforted by knowing we gave them a great home, lots of affection (at least as much as you can with cats) and also allowed them outside to enjoy the woods around our home.
this past spring we got two new kittens. they are good cats and we are enjoying them. but have not forgotten Ike and Tina, nor will you ever forget your friend.
may God bless and comfort you and your friend.
