Default Voice command module Fitted....

Hi All

I have finally had the last part of my Clifford 650/G5 alarm system fitted....

Its a "Voice Command Module"

What this entails is as follows...

As the alarm has a proximity alarm (bubble around the car roughly 2 feet away from car), it usually goes CHUURRRPPP when someone gets too close to the car....

Now the voice unit is fitted , it says "Step away from the car", although I will reprogram it to my voice, although not sure quite yet what to say, in the 5 seconds allowed.... I thought maybe "step away or die" lol...

It also gives the car an external PA system, with a small mike mounted top left of the instrument pod, which when I press a small button on the back of the mike allows me to speak through the external speaker...

When the alarm system is armed, instead of beeps it now says in an American voice "system armed" and "system disarmed" when alarm is turned off....

Those 2 commands are not changeable for some strange reason....

To be honest the best part of the whole (very expensive - around £1000) system is the "Intellistart" system (remote starting), as at least I never have to get in a cold car again (daily driver)

All the best Brett

Choose your voice message carefully- the wrong one would get your car keyed in a lot of places here. Perhaps people are more civil there.

Most of those voice alamrs are annoying at best. If it seems novel, folks will sit on your car just because they are lonely or need a laugh. A two foot search sensitivity will have the thing going off when someone parks in the next space and opens a door in a normal fashion. An alarm that falses like that all the time is of no real value unless you use a sound that would otherwise attract attention if it wasn't from a car. Person screaming, heavy breathing, helicopter landing on the roof, something like that.

Here in the colonies, it's illegal to operate a public address system from the car. Doesn't mean people won't do it, just means another line item on a traffic ticket when it's discovered.

I think most cars w/ the voice stuff on them here in the States have a higher rate of vandalism than the plain old alarms... I know of people who have had doors and fenders kicked in...I have also seen posts from folks who have seen people doing the damage to cars that talked to them...

Hi

Well I would like to NOT have it stolen, apart from the value of the car the Nitrous stuff is worth around £10,000...

And a couple of small electronic boxes weigh a few ounces....

Plus its my daily driver and parked every day on the street....

All the best Brett

The only aftermarket alarm system I've ever had on a car was on my 914 of all things. It was installed by a previous owner. It did NOT sound any alarm whatsoever, no blinky lights to advertise an alarm was activated, nothing to alert a would-be thief the car had any sort of alarm. Even though it had motion sensors and all that, it's main feature was it had Radio Shack sonic sensors mounted in the door next to the latches. If you tried the latch the clunk would set off the alarm. It then immediately disconnected the battery so it looked like the battery was dead and sent a page to a pager number.

The only false alarms I had were from my brother thinking he was funny. And we caught some car stereo thiefs in the act in our work parking lot yanking the stereo out of another car a few cars from the locked 914. Evidently they had tried the door on my car and moved on to find an unlocked car. When my pager went off I raced to where I could see the parking lot and then saw the doors open on the other car. Grabbed a group of guys including the owner of the other car, ran them down, and physically held them for the Police.

Local guy had a car with an audible alarm...went off two or three times at around 3:am two nights in a row. The 3rd night the car was stolen without a sound. And it was just a nothing special Chevy Citation. Think it became a challenge/spite thing to the thiefs.
